I've mostly watched machine knitting on Engineering Knits, who isn't an expert, but is very engaging. This was incredibly informative, and I really appreciate the clear shots of the needles.

Aw thanks! It’s hard to consider anyone an expert in knitting- there are people out there who have been knitting for 80+ years so there’s always more to learn! I think everyone brings something to the table 🥰

Yes, agree 100%. I also love the dropped shoulders, as you say it makes it look modern, but also quite 1830's in style.

This video makes me inspired to dig them out and figure it out. Probably needs to be oiled and checked out for damage
@anotherdreamgonewest11 ай бұрын
Nice! The bulky ones are great because you can knit with the hand knitting yarns that are more widely available, but I have a soft spot for the mid gauge. Definitely pull it out, give it a good oil and use some compressed air to blow the dust out of it and start it up! Check for bent needles, and you may need to change the sponge bar (that is quite the process but there are a few videos out there.) even just playing around on them is so much fun!

I kept seeing the poor things book on the internet but I had no idea it was adapted to a film or that the clothes were so cool or on exhibition until I saw your coat video. Also been watching some other channels on machine knitting and using it to knit vintage and historical clothing, so seeing more people talk about it is cool.

this is so high quality! the beautiful knit you created, the production of the video, and the helpful information you shared of your creative process. I love finding machine knitters that are creating with intention & care in each piece - rather than basically making DIY fast fashion. this style of creating really resonates with me and I am so glad this video helped me find your channel!

A wonderfull video, thank you! I noticed that to transfer stitches from one bed to another, you use the standard transfer tool and twist the stitch instead of using the double-eyed needle. Why is that, does it come out better this way? Because I assume the stitch would be like when you hand knit and stitch into the back leg of the stitch, that is, noticeably twisted. I have been machine knitting for two years now after having been given someones Silver Reed standard gauge punchcard-reading machine for free. Doing mostly sewing, I only wanted to make pieces of stockinette to cut trims from instead of knitting those by hand on 1.5 mm needles. Well, it didn't work out that way, now I knit more than I sew and am very happy about every machine kinitting creator who knows their stuff. Thumbs up!

Well you’re welcome and thank you! I heartily agree- I wished I’d seen knitfactorylmpl’s video before I started my version because we both ran into the same issue with dropped shoulders. I put their video in the notes for mine just in case anyone out there wants to try making one of these things since their video didn’t show up during my initial research- the KZbin algorithm is a strange fellow 🤷♀️.

This was a lt if fun to watch. Over the past 30 years I've thought about a knitting machine like yours. Thank you for posting it. The way you did the neckline is nice. My own version would have a V neck to suit me. The best part of making one's own clothes is that it is fitted to the wearer and the creator can go off on their own tangents. I would wear the sweater with a wide range of clothing.
@anotherdreamgonewest11 ай бұрын
Absolutely! A V neckline would be cute with this as well. There are so many options historically, I was really surprised to see such variety.
@bohemiansusan289711 ай бұрын
@@anotherdreamgonewest much of what we think is the norm in historical clothing doesn't give a full picture. People wore their favorite clothes the most, which led them to be worn out or refashioned. Then much of what survives are the things that weren't favored much or outgrew. I look at some old photos and drawings of my grandparents and great grandparents as well as study their clothing and most aren't typical for the time period. Makes me think that either I come from a long line of Bohemians or the range is far bigger than previously thought.

I have a knitting machine. I got it in the 1990's. It is a bulky machine. Because at the time I was into bulky sweaters (as most people back then was). I have since found a midgaudge one or is it a fine. I have not used it as I have moved several times. And have not had the time or space to check it out. It was $20 or some ridiculous price. But it's a quality one.

I'll leave a nice comment when I finish the video because I'm sure it's great but just wanted to comment an idea that I think would be up your alley: regency bib-front dress meets overalls, so the pins are replaced with overall buckles and other parts are denim with buttons and zippers or whatever else as needed or for Coolness. (Probably the bit in the front under the bib buttons together. Maybe is on an adjustable strap.) It's not something I think I'd do but I love the idea and they seem a similar concept executed in a different way, but also in a similar way to your hybrid projects, even if it's not an era I know you do.

Beautiful finished sweater! I can’t appreciate all the math involved in your knitting pattern. I’ve had to figure things out for patterns I’ve done. I had a knit machine as a kid, but honestly, I had lots of potential if I had someone to work with me on it. I hand knit a tunic pattern that I was so looking forward to wearing and found the same mismatch in the same lot number. Mine was dark blue and the difference was very obvious. Chain stitching the raw edges together is going to be a game changer for me. My least favorite thing in knitting is lining up the seams. That just seems so much more likely to get them matched right.

Thank you! I was very lucky to have a gracious and patient teacher when I first started machine knitting, and that’s the only thing that got me through the initial learning hump (because it’s a lot!) I honestly love linking sweaters together- I find matching the stitches up so soothing (you can get things so much more perfect than sewing on a machine!)

Raunchy and explicit as can be but absolutely phenomenal.

I love this ❤. It’s always daring mixing yarns and colours. I have a 80s brother knitting machine and the ribber has quirks. Especially the edges (drops)
@anotherdreamgonewest11 ай бұрын
Thank you! I definitely lucked out with the yarns working together pretty well (plus it’s space dyed yarn so a little color transfer isn’t as noticeable 😬.) The edges always drop or tuck on this guy- you can try putting extra weight on the edges with the little comb weights, but that usually only fixes it for 10 or so rows. They’re quirky 🤷🏻♀️
@LTott223411 ай бұрын
@@anotherdreamgonewest it’s only when increasing or decreasing, when it drops. I can’t see underneath but usually an error stitch 4-6 inches in.
@anotherdreamgonewest11 ай бұрын
That’s very strange- it’s not a solution, but you can try anticipating the drop by inserting a safety pin into the 2 or 3 stitches 1 row down from the active needles. That way if any of them do drop you’ve only got to reknit a couple of rows rather than the entire length.
@LTott223411 ай бұрын

When I learned to knit, and subsequently I've heard this at yarn stores and from other knitters/crocheters, that Blue Dawn - the one with the duck on the bottle - is the best thing to use on wool. So, I have faithfully used Blue Dawn on my wool garments. I've been happy with the results. (I also put them in the machine on delicate, cold water etc, only I add white hand towels to balance the load). I'm interested that you used Woolite to wash your garments and would like to know why. I was told never to use Woolite, and here you are, much more knowledgeable than I am, using Woolite. Was I sold a bag of rocks with the Dawn recommendation? Not that I care too much, since my stuff has come out just fine. I'm just curious and would like to know an alternate view point.

Absolutely loved watching your process as I can't even hand knit (i crochet). But, something about video editing...the music was really too loud and I struggled processing/hearing your words over it. Maybe consider making music volume like 50% quieter? Sorry to be a pest, but the music has put me off wanting to watch any moee of your videos...
@anotherdreamgonewest11 ай бұрын
Well thank you- I’m actually trying to learn to crochet myself and I can say that while you’d think they’d be similar crochet and knit are just different enough to make learning both tricky. I’m sorry to hear about the music- the vocals/music have been leveled to the proportions recommended by KZbin but I also know how frustrating it is not to be able to hear what’s being said (there are a few shows/films out there that could do with a re-leveling!) Thank you so much for the feedback, and I’ll try to be a bit more generous to the vocals next time I’m setting audio!
