I first heard of the Islander Sewing system yesterday,, 2/22/24 when I purchased your virtual class through ASG. I was so intrigued that I have spent many hours watching your videos. I have just purchased 12 fabrics to make my spring capsule wardrobe. Now, before I make anything, I want to make slopers. Everything I have heard you say makes so much sense and answers so many of my questions. And I have been sewing for 50 years off and on. I was that person who learned to sew and my body perfectly fit the pattern. Since I am older now and things have shifted I don't "fit the pattern". And I have to make different adjustments with different pattern companies. The idea of the sloper, I hope, willl change all that!! I am so glad I took your course.

I am glad you took my course too. Sewing is my passion and I know how frustrating it can be to sew well only to have ill-fitting results. Happy Sewing!!

Thank you for these videos. I am grateful as you showed the fittings on Brenda, the ditto form, which represents a real persons body. I learned a lot. I have the ditto form and have been very successful with it. Please do more videos using "Brenda".

Excellent series! It would be nice to have an episode 4 showing how to cut the front open for the bust adjustment. It is quite obvious if you already did it on a woven pattern, but it may differ for knits.

There is no reason for a bust adjustment with a knit sloper. The adjustment is built in no matter the bust size. Please watch again. Happy Sewing!!

Thank you for creating this, it was great information. I had several "aha" moments. 😊 i am really struggling to fit myself without a fitting buddy or a custom dress form. My husband really tries and is very patient but is essentially useless 😂 I am hoping once i get a good fitting sloper it will make fitting easier for every pattern. My question is about using the sloper going forward. Knits vary widely, just like bodies. Is there a to adjust the sloper for a knit with more or less stretch or a knit with a different weight?

Most knits made for T shirts are in the same stretch range approximately 25 to 50%. When using a stable knit, not very stretchy and woven sloper might be better. When using a very stretchy spandex there will be 0 ease but this is usually used for very snug fitting exercise style garments. I hope that helps. Happy Sewing!!

To me, it looked like you created your pattern based on the pin markings and used that as the cutting line. I did not see where you added the seam allowance to the outside of the pin lines.

Please review the video again and I am sure you will see the final pattern has both the stitching line (in red) and the cutting line (in black). There is text printed on the screen explaining the need to add the seam allowance you desire. I added 3/8". Happy Sewing!!
