Beautyful work, considering it is your first. Wow, so far I didn't dare to start one. Magic loop will come out way better if You work on smaller needles with a long cable and pull the yarn on the last stich of the finished round. Just like with knitting socks. Congrats!!!!!

Magic loop trick! ✨ Just make sure you tighten the first and second stitches after flipping into work - those bars come from the stitches pulling lose at the ends… weird, and it happens to everyone!!! @katesnooks
@katesnooks 17 күн бұрын
Hello! I made a medium as I wanted it oversized like in the pattern pictures. I tried to maintain a not too tight gauge when doing the colourwork so I don’t think it detracted from the size

@@katesnooks Thanks for that tip and you did such a great job on the fair isle. I know you are not happy with the laddering on the cuffs. I've had the same problem. My tip is to frog them back, perhaps go down a needle size and really watch each transition in the magic loop and tighten both the first and second stitch on the next needle. When I do that, I eliminate laddering. Recently, I threaded in elastic thread through the knit stitches on the back edge of the cuffs and that eliminated flare. Congrats on a beautiful product!

Congratulations! It turned out so beautifully. I like the tip of using markers to denote beginning and end of repeats. I always have my charts on my iPad and I write out notations below the chart for each round (ie: 5B 3W/ 2B 1W/ 5B 3W etc. etc.) because I can’t “read” the charts …. I always end up having to stop and count anyhow so I just jot it down) and then I can easily make notations as I go if I have to stop mid row or some such. But visual reminders on the needles would keep me from getting hypnotized by a repeat and carrying on long past when I aught to have stopped lol. So much tinking ….. There is a great channel here called Nimble Needles. He has a tutorial somewhere about doing magic loop a little differently to help prevent laddering. You pull the cord through at random points instead of always having the stitches lined up evenly .. it’s hard to explain but I think you can find it easily enough. It’s the method I use (except for things like sock toes or glove fingers) and I never have ladder issues. I love the shorter needles. I use them all the time (also makes magic loop so much easier). I find them more comfortable to hold and I seem to knit a lot faster with them. I also like how much easier it makes switching out the needles on a cable when and if needed. I have wood ones and they are so light …. I don’t get any cramping or soreness even after seriously intense knitting marathons. But I also knit continental (Norwegian for ribbing) which I find so much easier for colourwork as well. It’s easy to hold both strands in one hand (you just flip the direction of the second colour over your finger and it keeps them separated. It also makes catching floats a breeze.) since you are picking the yarn instead of throwing it. It took me a bit to catch onto the rhythm of it as well, but IMO it’s well worth the learning curve in the end. Cables are so much fun. They get really addictive. Especially if you learn how to do them without using a cable needle. I learned how to increase and decrease ribbing and some cables and I was like a mad woman unleashed 😂.

Hey there! I love your sweater. It's turning out so great. One question if you have time. I recently cast on my version. Chart A is causing me some confusion. The pattern says to start and end at the arrows, but there is a repeat in the middle. I'm not sure how to deal with this. Do you have any tips? Thank you in advance. And great work on your sweater!
@katesnooks

I hope this helps as I’m not the best at explaining. Start at one arrow, work up until the repeat, and repeat it until you get to the last 4 stitches, then do the 4 stitches until the final arrow!! Does this help!
@katesnooks
@katesnooks 20 күн бұрын
Repeat the 10 repeat stitches - I hope that helps! I did my first 5 stitches then added stitch markers every 10 stitches to mark the repeat, and then the final 4 at the end

There is also a method where you pull the excess cord through at random intervals instead of keeping the stitches lined up in equal numbers across both needles/lengths of the cord. That way the tension is distributed more evenly across all the stitches and there is no laddering. It’s the method I’ve used for years now and it works like a charm. It’s not possible to do if you’re doing something like the toe of a sock or the fingers on a glove, but for anything with more stitches, it works great.

I don’t know how the sleeve color chart and stitch count is for the medium, but for the size small I’m having a hard time with not only the instruction - but the stitch count and chart doesn’t match? I’ve been all over the internet trying to get some insight. Did you have any problems? The comments that I relate to on Raverly haven’t been answered yet
@katesnooks
@katesnooks 20 күн бұрын
I’ve seen some people confused by this! My advice is: I did a medium and I imagine you’re doing a xs/s which is the same number of sleeve stitches as my medium So 84 sleeve stitches to start with - but it’s easy to not see the first stitch you need to include at the beginning of the chart. I’ve crossed out the other sizes in the chart so I didn’t get confused. So with that first stitch plus the others in the chart, that equals 84! I hope this helps!! I would recommend going to the projects on ravelry and searching ‘sleeve decrease’ as there are some projects that really help explain it!
