Knitting Expat - Making A DIY Blending Board, Fibre Haul & My First Rolags!

Using the knitting needles is genius! Sometimes I roll mine a little to tight and think having that extra round bit to a grip will make it much easier to pull it out! Definitely going to try that!

A few years ago I bought an antique drum carder at a flea market. Some spinners in the online groups told me to buy a boar bristle hairbrush for packing the fiber down . I found one at the Walmart in the hair section. $15. It isn’t hard on the tines, and works like a charm.

Using a cutting board as your base is genius! I have always wanted a blending board as soon as I saw one being used, but the cost! This puts one within my grasp financially. Thank you!

I seem to like mostly the same colors as you do! I made my own blending board, too! I waited and waited for the bit of carding cloth to arrive in the mail, but it finally got here.

You did a great job with your first rolags, lovely. I made my blending board too, so glad that making it myself was an option because when I made mine it was a little over 1/4 the cost of buying one. Enjoy.

This is great! My daughter was gifted a very old drum carder that sings very loudly (to be kind). This looks like a more relaxing solution to achieve a similar goal. Thank you so much! I hope I can find the carding cloth in Canada.
