I've grown to really love these needles. I'm glad you've made some videos featuring them!

I LOVE them for socks. I’m not great with magic loop (and have little interest in practicing) so I splurged and got 2 sets so I could have both socks going at the same time. I split stitches for the top and bottom of the foot and just go to town... I don’t lose stitches off the edge... I will never go back to dpns. To me they are well worth the investment. I’m on my 3rd pair of socks them.

I wanted to love magic loop and have used it for both socks and sleeves for years. Problem is that I really (really) dislike it and knitting time is too precious not to love what you are doing. I like 9" circulars for stockinette stitch but not for ribbing. DPNs are fine- but stitches slide off when I am not paying close attention. I bought these Flexi flips a while ago hoping they would be the perfect solution -but then I got lazy and never invested the time to learn how to use them. This video (like all of your videos) was very helpful- after watching this - I started knitting a sock and I love them! Took about an inch to get used to- but smooth sailing now. Thanks so much for all you do to make us better knitters and encouraging us to try new products and techniques!

I’ve recently switched to flexi flips or crasy Trio as they’re known on this side of the pond (with a s). I think a video breaking down sock construction would be handy and also discussing the different options using the flexi flips. It took me a while to figure out the whole heal flap turn and gusset procedure when I was used to one short circular. Super helpful video for those new to the flips!

Kylie Hodges I've been working some baby socks and using Addi Flexi-Flips US size 1 but is actually a 1-1/2 US size or 2.5 mm. The socks have a heel flap. It isn't hard to figure out just two needles on the heel flap knitting back and forth, it is when you pick up the gusset stitches. It is a bit awkward the first few rows but what works best for me is to put one needle for the instep and the heel needle opposite. This means the beginning of your round is dead center for the heel needle and I place one marker. But to pick up the gusset stitches, you pick up the left side with the heel needle, then knit the instep on the needle waiting from doing the heel flap (the instep needle) -- on the same needle you had the stitches on so there is no redistribution of stitches, then when you go to pick up the right side gusset stitches, you use the free 3rd Flexi-Flip and then knit to the other side where you have the all the stitches for both gussets and the leftover heel stitches, all on one FlexiFlip. Then it is easy to find the decrease every other row which is always one stitch away from the instep needle, and I don't have to use loads of markers. Sock yarn can be all scooted together so on the one heel needle you are going to have lots more stitches of course. By the time these decreases are done, usually you will have the same stitch count on both unless you are doing cable pattern stitches on the instep needle. With baby socks I have not had a problem with stitches popping off but when I was using DPNs on my socks, I had to use needle tip stitch rubber keepers or I'd lose stitches. Flexi-Flips all the stitches are hanging out in the bend. But have not tried this on socks to fit me. But am curious about it. What is nice is that when all the stitches are decreased and I knit the foot, the needles are correctly arranged for doing the toe decreases. If you put the center of the gusset decreases not in the center of the heel needles but on the end, you have to slip stitches on both front and back needles so your toe decreases are on the sides of your foot and not 90 degrees to them when you get there. So I like that the needles don't have to be repositioned to the foot tube, as if I am tired and listening to a video on YT or on TV, I can relax and not worry that I am doing my toe all wrong. Roxanne Richards (Rox Rocks on Ravelry) has a sock tutorial on KZbin and she shows using the Flexi-Flips with a heel flap sock with the start of the round at the end of the needle. This is how I work Magic Loop but it requires a lot more stitch markers. I am sure it would work, but stitch markers often pop off my needles so the less I have to use them, the better I like it. I have a hungry sofa as it is a recliner and I think someday if we will find several DPNs which it ate and I could not reach along with an investment of the stitch markers it ate for dessert. I usually knit socks for me using the 9" tiny circulars and have the ChiaoGoo Mini set for that as knitting a tube in the round is quite easy and I have been able to do a heel flap sock on that also. Having more stitches is not a problem, what becomes a problem with 9" circulars is having too few stitches, then the stitches just are hard to move around the needle. Again, needs lots of stitch markers. I do like Flexi-Flips for socks. I have the bamboo tips from Addi. Very nice and I don't get sore finger tips from them. NICE!

This video was very informative. I would like to see a video showing flexiflips with a cast on beginning with only 2-4 stitches and then increasing as you go. Many protects start that way. I can’t quite figure out how to use the needles on so few stitches. Thanks

I love them. I like DPNS, have tried magic loop (didn't enjoy apart from managing to do complete both socks at the same time) but am now on my second pair of socks using Flexiflips & find them easy & comfortable to use (& I speak as someone who suffers from arthritis especially in the thumb joints). Have also bought a larger pair to use on hats once there are too few stitches on the 16" circulars.

I have been a hard-core DPN sock knitter. I’ve tried every other type of needle to get away from the fussiness and chaos of the DPNs and have not found anything I like better….. until now. I LOVE my Addi Flexi flip needles. I can knit faster and the needles are more manageable in my hands. I doubt that I will ever go back to DPNs.

I have struggled to follow a pattern with 12 stitch CO using DPNs. My favorite way to work in the round is using two needles, but that just doesn't work starting with so few stitches, plus the pattern calls for size 3 and the yarn is fingering weight. I'm going to try flexi flips and am hoping they help. Thank you as always for your informative videos!

A suggestion for a future videos would be Russian purling. I've tried the stitch and loved it as it's very ergonomic. However, I think it puts a twist in the stitch as they then ktbl on the next row. A video on that would be amazing (looking for the most ergonomic ways to knit). I'm learning to crochet so slow motion basic crochet stitches would be great also. Like so many others, I learned to knit watching your videos and always check your library first whenever I'm unsure of a new technique etc X

Probably the first negative comment. I'm not a fan of these needles. Maybe it's because I've been using DPNs and Magic Loop for years. I found them harder on my hands than either DPNs or Magic Loop. I stiffened right up. I couldn't wait to finish the sock I started. Went back to DPNs for the second sock. I've contemplated getting a 2nd set and using 3 needles instead of 2 for my project, because I do like the idea of the cord in the middle.

I bought the Flexi-flips in US6 for mitts and the Hiya-Hiya Flyers in US2 for socks. My "Man Hands" are too big for both. I didn't like the floppy ends much and the HH flyers were way too sharp (for me). Staci got me using DPNs more often and that's where I'll stay for small circumferences. But it's nice to have options for all knitters, right?

Relatively new knitter, and I love the flexiflips to knit socks, but they are very expensive compared to DPNs. I have FFs in US 1, 2, 7 and 13. My project needs DPNs (or FFs) in US 4 and US 5, so I need to shop. My local yarn store has neither version in US 4 or 5, so I'm shopping online and now see that XL and Long versions of the FFs are available. I would appreciate advice as to which version would be the smartest investment for the future. Right now I want to knit mittens, but since I have so little experience with small circular knitting, I don't have enough information to make a good decision as to which size would give me more bang for the buck. Thanks for any help!

I’m late to the flexible DPN party, mainly because I’m very comfortable with Magic Loop. But I’ve been knitting a lot of Knitted Knockers lately, and because they are triangular in shape with increases or decreases every round, they’re a lot easier to make using 4 DPNs. I find straight DPNs a bit uncomfortable to hold, though, and was wondering if using 4 flexible DPNs might be more pleasant. I’ll have to spend about $60 since I’ll need 4 needles instead of 3, but I knit a lot of knockers, so I’m considering it. Do you think that makes sense?
@verypinkknits3 ай бұрын
I would give it a try with one set of flexible DPNs to start. I've made Knitted Knockers on these needles, and three needles work well. You just need to place a stitch marker on one of the needles where the "needle break" would be if you were using four.

Flexible DPNs are too short for knitting two socks at the same time. For that you want to use magic loop. The magic loop technique is worked on one long circular needle.

There are some advantage to use flipflex is that you dont need cord for this, and no ladder!! It s most easy ones, however it wont work for sweater, or any large projects which yours come in.

I never get ladders with my short circulars. I think that you should always use what works best for you. 😊
@kyliehodges63415 жыл бұрын
Raymonde Gagnier I don’t think there are clear advantages it’s just another option.
@verypinkknits5 жыл бұрын
Here are the advantages, as I see them - first, the needles themselves are longer, making it easier for more people to hold. (The shortness of the needles is the main complaint from people when it comes to 9" circulars.) Second, the fact that you're using three needles makes it easier to work increases/decreases and shaping, it's easier to get the needle into the stitches in different ways. Still, I often switch to 9" circulars for the straight knitting sections of socks (feet and cuffs), then switch to another method (flexiflips or dpns) when i have to work the shaping of the toes and heels.
@lafrileuse44595 жыл бұрын
@@verypinkknits , thank you for your answer! I don't work with a 9 inch circular (still can't get the hang of it, my hands cramp up...) but with two 16 inch circular Chiaogoo needles. I also knit sleeves, mittens and hats with two circular needles, it allows increases and decreases without having to change needles, a big plus when you're on the move.

Stacey, I love your videos. They're so well produced and your explanations are always crystal clear. But I have to disagree with a remark you always make about magic loop. And that is that the first stitch on the back loop is on the cable! It's not! I always knit magic loop for socks and other small diameter items and that is NEVER the way you'd start out. Cannot figure our why you say that.
@verypinkknits3 жыл бұрын
Hmm...they way I knit magic loop is to pull the "back" (right) needle long, so that it is in a position to knit the first stitch from the left needle. In that position, the last stitch knit (that will tighten when the working yarn is pulled) is on the cord. I know it's not just me...other people talk about being careful not to over tighten that stitch. If you have a different way of working magic loop that works for you, that is great!
