Great to see the orange wool has a beautiful friend, I had to laugh because no better person than a Dutchie to give advice on something orange, so well done! Lovely to watch this episode 😍

Looks like you got some great Spanish yarns on your trip. I’m a Canadian podcaster living in Barcelona, so I know those brands well. I think I actually crossed paths with you at BCN Knits, but I didn’t say hello. :) The moherino is actually great for socks- the mohair provides strength. Of course, they’ll also make lovely mittens.

I love when you break out the math problems. You go on to the next segment and I'm a mile behind trying to do the math with my brain fogged over like I just drank 3 quick doubles. It slays me every time but is totally charming.

Great podcast! Watched this while cutting out a sewing pattern. The acquisitions are well picked and you should always announce that you made the Rivendell cardigan whenever possible

You should be chuffed with your maths!! And, it does make sense that some of the length would be lost as the sock stretches more in circumference. I appreciate your episodes! Thank you!

I live in Finland (EU) and I ordered Rosa Pomar yarn from Retrosaria in Lisbon, Portugal (EU). The postage was EUR 7,90. When I ordered yarn from non-EU Norway, practically next door, I paid an arm and a leg in postage. The yarn price included Norwegian VAT 25% and at the Finnish customs I paid Finnish VAT 25,5%. I can find the yarn in Finland too, but I wanted the Rauma yarn pattern book, so I had to buy at least 4 balls of Rauma yarn to get it. Probably the most I ever paid for yarn. Next time I go to Norway, I will order yarn to the place I am staying. I am so sorry about brexit. I think I must become friends with some British knitters so I can invite them for a visit 😂 Travelling to Britain has become too expensive. PS. Thank you for bringing Hedgehog fibres to my attention. They ship to Finland. ❤

Oh I didn’t know Retrosaria shipped internationally - this I good to know 😂 yeah Brexit is a pain even for those of us not in the UK! I can’t imagine how difficult it is for small businesses, because I know myself I am more reluctant to buy from the UK now, and I’m sure lots of others are the same. It’s very punishing for them.

a few pattern inspirations (haven't tried them myself): Pielpa Mittens by Susanna Kaartinen (mittens) and Cloudburst by Arienne Gray (fingerless gloves). And one that I keep returning to: Customizable Fingerless Gloves by June E Brown. Hope you like them.

Regarding the loose selvedge stich on your cardigan--you might try wrapping the yarn the wrong way on the first three stiches of each row. The stiches will end up twisted, so make sure to either knit or purl them through the back loop on the way back. I've done this on my last two projects and I'm really amazed at how neat my edge stitches are. However, my patterns did not call for a knit selvedge stitch on both the right and wrong side of the fabric, so that could be a complicating factor. Good luck!

Ah ok good idea! I’ll try that

The brioche shawl might grow a few additional inches in lenght but also become thinner. As for how much it's hard to say as it differs for each yarn, but gauge matters- knit on small needles there is less yarn in the yarnovers and it can't grow as much as when knit on large needles. Try wearing the scarf as you knit it- I find having it around my neck helps against having the yarn twisted around it. Chiaogoos have a slightly smaller circumference than other needles. It isn't very obvious but enough to affect the gauge. I might have 25 and 27 stitches on sequential wooden needles, but chiaogoos in the larger size would give me 26. The feel of knitting plays into it as well, tension changes due to the surface of the needles, joins and cables

This is such a helpful comment - thank you so much! I feel like I’ve learned something 😂 it’s good to know the scarf might grow more because of the brioche - I hadn’t thought about the extra yarn in the yarn overs. It might grow more than I had originally thought but I still think it will be within the range that I’m happy with, and if not I’ll undo the last stripe ☺️

Thank you so much for putting all the work into the knitting shop directory and sharing it. Could be very useful for us UK based knitters too. That awful Brexit!!! Would love to buy you a coffee but have failed miserably to find you on Kofi. Can you put in a link or your Kofi name? I have tried various combinations of Stitches in Stem. Love your podcasts

Maybe you could use the hiedra mitts by Fibertales Love these and the pattern and I think you could easily change it for mittens

Oh I had seen those but I think I want something with a tighter gauge. Otherwise they would have been perfect!

I am wondering if the smaller stitch count is causing more stretching horizontally, which is taking away some length.
@Stitchesinstem6 күн бұрын
Yeah that occurred to me too! I prefer the fit of the circumference so I may just have to add more rows to all of my socks in the future
