I've followed Jeff for years. He's one of the best in the business...his brush playing is simply amazing....drummers take note. The Pro's pro..and a great guy.

Jeff is in the top 5 best in the world for sure, maybe higher. For his style of music, he's probably #1. The thing I like about him, is that he's smart as hell, behind the kit, and doing other things, as well, like running businesses, or finding good people to run the businesses that he sets up. If I were a rich man, I would hire him to play my wedding

When Jeff drops the stick at around 2:00 the moves are a lesson in real life on the stand. It’s always interesting to see great players have that happen. The cymbal strikes with the the stick only in half recovery is fascinating.

Tamir Hendelman is a monster on the piano, I just admire him so much because his style to play is so tasty and brilliant - in my opinion one of the best right now. Jeff of course is already a legend - his playing is musically and technically perfect - especially his brush-work. His solos are like singing a melody or a song - sometimes you can recognize the song just the way he plays - amazing.

Though I do not play, I have 'a great ear and no chops'. Dad played drums and piano, and traveled with Meyer Davis Orchestras on board the luxury ships the 1950's. Mom sang withTex Beneke, and Saxie Dowell. I was lucky to have had such parents: they taught me HOW TO LISTEN. we played Chet Baker in the house when I was a kid, George Shearing, Tony Bennett stopped by to hang out with the folks, and I learned before I was ten why Peggy Lee, Ella and Sarah Vaughan were totally amazing.

Most of the comments are of the type “Tamir is great” . . . “Jeff is great” . . . “Bassist is great” . . . Ok. Do not disagree. But, do you all hear the phrasing they’re playing as an ensemble? There is where the greatness is happening.
@johnfuller82846 жыл бұрын
Tamir Hendelman is a genius. I’ve heard him with the Jeff Hamilton trio a half dozen times and he (and the trio) never disappoint. The trio has performed at the Nashville Jazz Workshop on several occasions, an excellent venue that’s a listening room, not a lounge. This trio is simply a joy machine that brings a smile to every face in the room. If you aren’t familiar with Tamir’s own trio work it’s excellent!

Just an great swingin’ trio. Jeff Hamilton is for me on par with Shelley Manne. They are the ultimate cymbals-drummers. I do hope i express myself clearly. Of course he uses the toms, specially on the first track. Nice selection of tunes. Like this live-gig very much. G’day folks, enjoy & Cheers!

I just received a pair of Jeff Hamilton brushes from Innovative Percussion. They are perhaps a millimeter wider then my old standard Regals…. and it makes a huge difference in my playing. I thought I was getting spastic in my right hand (I’m lefty). Turns out my hands have grown a bit in the 25+ years since I last bought brushes. That extra millimeter is the difference between being able to grip the brush correctly or not. What a treat! And these with the stiffer bristles are louder, and bounce better. So not only do I have to thank Jeff for teaching me some things, but also for designing brushes that work in my hands. Now I’m going to watch and listen, again ,to this incredible gig by his trio.

I honestly can't think of a better brush player in the last 30 years or so. Musical, melodic, creative, technically brilliant and all so apparently effortless. Listen for example to his playing on "Devil May Care" from the Paris concert with Diana Krall. Such intensity and concentration yet it just flows naturally. I could listen to Mr. Hamilton all day long with those brushes! A real inspiration here.

Jeff plays beautifully! There are some other drummers who are gifted with brushes. Clayton Cameron, Dave Weckle, Cindy Blackman Santana just to name a few. Have a great day, and happy listening.

What a cool idea to play what almost NOBODY plays anymore, Ahmad's "POINCIANA". -- It's 2019 . Be sure to listen to "I Have Dreamed" (from "The King & I") and listen to the harmonic GENIUS in the arrangement, as well as the rhythmic loveliness. This is some of the finest stuff you will EVER hear. I am so grateful to people who do this for my brain!
