Guys this is Medina, which is the ancient area of the city, built hunderds years ago, and it s abvious that it doesnt look like today modern cities, Fes has its new part called the new Fes where you can experience all what you have in the modern cities, supermarkets, malls, gerdans, parks etc... So you guys watching this and think Morocco looks all the same that s not true.

I think the date of the house in in Hijri calendar (the islamic calendar). We’re now in 1439 h. The arabic writing says “in the name of Allah, the merciful” this is what muslims say whenever they “begin” something, anything from starting a meal, to moving to a new home.

Yes - I think you’re right on the date. We realized that later. And thanks for the translation! What a beautiful phrase.

in Morocco we don't use the Muslim calendar a lot. We use the other calendar which the year is 2019 now. Also, they are lots of old houses in Morocco that are more than a hundred years old.

AMAZING! I spent a couple weeks in the Arab quarter in old Jeruselum a few years ago and the streets in your footage reminded me of that trip! It was such a gift to experience the culture and befriend the people there! I definitely came away with an open mind, bigger heart, and better lense to view the world, if that makes sense. It is so valuable to step into worlds where people live, look, and believe different things than you - we have so much to learn from each other and should not be afraid of each other. Thank you for sharing and You are giving your kids such an incredible gift!

I stumbled across this video while studying ancient Roman houses. I wanted to find out if windows were glazed or if they had shutters since no ancient artefacts exist that are made of glass. But that is understandable. It probably did exist and they used it sparingly since it's a fragile material. I was led to Moroccan house design that has given me an incredible insight into how ancient roman houses functioned with windowless rooms placed all around a central atrium so that in effect glass wasn't needed except for ornamental stained coloured glass as such is seen around Windows and doorways coming off central private courtyard atriums. And I now understand how ancient roman town planning worked with residences butted up next to each other. This an economical and efficient way of building for the plebeian class who still had a reasonably good standard of living. So thank you for your tour.

Fez isn't like going to a different planet, its going to the REST of the planet! I would highly recommend that if you've hired a chef (genius idea by the way) have them take you to where they shop. Not so that you can cook yourself but so that you can see how they procure food. As you travel onwards and further outside "Western" culture you'll need the experience of shopping in open air markets and not a western style supermarkets so take advantage of a guide. Of course every culture will be a little bit different but the street market food shopping has been fairly universal in my experience - just not in North America.

You all look so nice, happy and renewed going away from routine makes miracles. The different smells, colors, ambience, food, people, sounds, etc from new places makes us to reborn. The world is so big, with so many beautiful places, countries, etc that we never will have enough time to visit all of them, but since you made the first steps and knowing how it feels to be discovering something new If I would be you, will try to go farther, like Egipt, Turkey, Greece, Japan, Italy, Thailand, or ar least the most you can, I think repeting places or staying too long in just one, will take away the opportunity to know, experience, enjoy the magic of the world. Thanks so much for your videos, I love your sweet family.!
