NIGHTWISH talk HEADLINING the first ever KNOTFEST FINLAND

Sophie K sits down with Tuomas Holopainen and Kai Hahto from Nightwish to discuss their feelings on the first ever Knotfest Finland and what it means for them to headline it in their home country. They also speak on the open-mindedness of Finnish metal fans, how the pandemic affected their latest album release and tour which was supposed to start in China, but also how productive they've managed to be in the past couple of years.

Just discovered Nightwish this year but that's all it's taken to realize Holopainen is one of the great musical composers of the past quarter century. The songs are just masterful and overwhelmingly moving. Not that he or any of us would wish it, but they could change lineups many more times and I doubt the music itself would suffer as long as he were writing it.

He really is. Any personnel change in Nightwish is always so fraught with drama and constant comparison but he seemed to just take it all in stride. He’s really down to earth. I love Jukka (referring to the former drummer but Jukka the current bassist is someone I hope to get to know as well as he becomes more a part of the band- hoping he will) but Kai is an incredibly talented drummer.

I just love these guys. Tuomas always looks like he's completely uncomfortable in interviews but that's what I love about him. He is so humble and doesn't need to brag about things. His music speaks for itself. For the past 22 years this band has been my absolute favourite and they forever will be.

It's great to know a new album is in the works! I will say this, Nightwish has helped me make it through these past 7 plus months since I injured my lower back. I went from being able to walk around our apartment, go to the grocery store, sit up and paint, as I am an artist...so going from being able to create to needing a walker to just go the 3 steps into my bathroom has been difficult! It would be so easy to get depressed, but the music from Tuomas and Nightwish keeps me so happy inside, how can I get depressed??? Kai....Tuomas.....you have a really huge fan in Texas!!! Thank you!

i can really understand you. last 6 years sometimes it was so hard for me just to leave my bed and sometimes i was going through things i wouldn't wish to anyone. and nightwish were here to make me feel better everytime, everyday. last week i saw them for the first time and yes now it feels like everything's gonna be fine one day. i hope you won't go through depression again, you really deserve to feel happy 💜

Kai is so light-hearted, pretty similar to Troy, I think this is the first time I've heard him talk fluid English, he and Emppu were the ones to struggle a bit with the language barrier, Tuomas on the other hand, it's fluid but speaks very little lol like that Finnish saying "Finnish people don't speak much, buy when they do, they really mean it" I picked a couple of gestures, that made me think if he does them when he's thinking exactly what to say, or are just mannerisms he picked up over the years, like looking up constantly and the finger on his temple, the typical sign of a "thinker", he also says the funniest and wholesome stuff with such straight face it's even funnier and more adorable. If I didn't know he's a huge fan of Disney I'd highly doubt about him wearing goofy ears around the park 😂 joke? Sarcasm? True story? Who knows but I can perfectly see that. PS: love how Tuomas casually made three different albums with three different bands and the interviewer goes "Wow!" While he and Kai just smile and giggle respectively

I like Kai too ❤️ Sometimes he answer to fans comments in Facebook and seems to be very nice and kind. He really is down to earth guy, loves to go concerts with his wife just like any other guy 😁 and there is actually many interviews in YT with Kai. He seems to be Tuomas's other half now days giving interviews. Even when they speak Finnish, you don't see Emppu there 😁

Earlier Kai was just nervous, it was a big jump for him. This is our greatest band ever so he knows exactly how big thing it is. Now he's comfortable and relaxed so speaking is easier. In general - thinking and speaking EnglishFinnish is not easiest thing to do. Like if you haven't talked in English for some time, many times you struggle and everything is very slow. You have to talk little bit that you get going. I think Tuomas has quite a typical Finnish mannerisms. We are comically bad in small talk so we usually try to be accurate and efficient. I loved how he explained open-minded thing, I thought instantly same thing when she started to talk about last ten years. It doesn't matter what instruments there are, what singer style there are, what genre it is. If it's good, it's good. We hate copycats and love originality.

I could easily see him just relaxing with his family and rocking Goofy ears. Just got back from Disney World and they are redoing Aerosmith Rock n Rollercoaster due to some label thing or something. Thought Nightwish Storytime would be a great way to go as a replacement. Would love to share a bottle of wine with Tuomas and just talk about life and all there is in it. Great interview

You must join them in Kitee ...the international fans have a summit every summer there (except Covid summers). See KIMAF happening videos on YT. Tuomas is there among others just like "easy going" everyone.

The man has been busy, it's not that long ago when that photo showing he was working on #10 showed up and now there is already a demo. Meaning he already finished everything as far he can by himself. Also the teaser, it will be nice to hear the story that we - the world - need to know, I can't wait. This was a good interview and Kai was an unexpected bonus. Funny how he was talking about dancing in the disco LOL 😂🤣😂🤘

I think it is Tuomas who wrote the whole NW album music and lyrics plus most of the new Auri album as well. He is responsible say 90 % of the material. For the Black metal band (DB) he did not write anything...he "just" plays keys there.
