Welcome to my first, two part ‘Come and make with me’ video!
In this video I’ll be showing you how I make my signature macrame tree of life and showing you how you can make yours.
This is not a step-by-step tutorial. Simply because I truly believe this piece should be created with your own individual style rather than copied from start to finish. I will show you how to create the first few stages, how to make the perfect leaf using double half hitch knots (DHHK) and you can then follow me as I complete the first stage of my tree - With tips throughout.
The following video, to be released soon, will show you how to create the branches, trunk and those final finishing touches.

Trial and error! I have found that 200cm works perfectly for me. If you want a longer fringe hanging down then you can use longer cords.

Lovely Video! I got a question right away. My hoop is 20cm remains the length of the cord still 200 cm or do I have to make them shorter?

You can take them a little shorter. It just depends on how long you want the ends to hang. 175 would be ok!

I like to make sure just over half the hoop is covered in the cords. Start with fewer and see how you go before you cut too many! I can’t wait to see your finished tree 🌳

Hi! The largest tree I have done is 50cm. I used 3mm instead of 2mm and I had 15 groups of 4 cords - 60 in total. And I would double the lengths too - 4m I hope that’s clear? X

Absolutely. You may not need to make as many leaves. Start by cutting 40/44 and see how that covers the hoop. (Don’t bunch them up too closely) but you want to make sure half the hoop is covered. Does that make sense?! 🙈

Hi! Apologies for the delayed reply. When I say overlapping I mean where there becomes too many cords close together. They start to overlap and it’s impossible to carry on creating leaves with that many cords so I start leaving cords out. I hope that makes a little more sense? I like to make sure just over half the hoop is covered. So just add them in groups of 4 and see how many you need.
