Shantamuleka is in ragam Sama. Because both Sahana and Sama are Janyam of 28 th Melakarta, you might have a few resemblances.

Namaste Madam Garu, Very Nice Presentation of the Ragam.I have small Doubt, that is R2 is Oscillating from G3 or around itself and N2 Gamakam is "SDSD" or DNDN ? I Request you,Please Clarify my doubt, Madamji.
@malaviswanathan Жыл бұрын
R2 mostly oscillates around itself, while N2 mostly sits in D2

Namaste ma'am. I have one question. It was really nice of you to contrast with dwijavanti on the ri ga ri part of avarohanam. While playing I have noticed that if for sahana too I play ri ga3 ri with ga3 being pulled in ri2 it gives a distinct feel as compared to playing ri ga3 ri wit ga3 in the ga3 fret itself with slide from ri2. How do you play it say in sahana varnam? So if I were to play a pa ma ga ma ri ga ri sa phrase in sahana, I would play the ma ga ma with ga in the ga fret itself but the ri ga ri will have ga being pulled from ri. It's more of a feel aspect than frequency. What is your advice on this?
@malaviswanathan Жыл бұрын
Anand, for the phrase PMGMRGRS that you have mentioned especially, pm in m , gm in g and rgrs with g in G3 is the most ideal for Sahana. If you are able to handle the G3 frequency in R2 that is also fine. The R2 and G3 being held while playing RGR, is the hallmark of Sahana

@@malaviswanathan thank you ma'am. I will try it today. This had been a long standing doubt. These small corrections that you say are really precious. Can you also give us some insights into Begada and Atana some time. I have heard a lecdem by Vid.R.Vedavalli ma'am on Atana. However, it has not been easy to translate that knowledge into veena. Vakra ragas where a note repeats itself are especially challenging and I think only through a guru one can learn them as the gamakam and which fret we play distinguishes both the notes and establishes the ragam properly.

I am working on Atana. It is indeed difficult to express such ragas in a simplified manner as their interpretations are varied

One doubt- when we shift to lower octaves what is key. How to do that? Any guideline video please.
@malaviswanathan9 ай бұрын
Lower octaves for Sahana? You have to listen and learn from Alaapana played or sung by others
