Know by heart: "The Town"

I have never been in Russia yet this town is also so familiar to me- I grew up in a country that used to be part of east bloc. Usually when people depict places like the town its usuall meant to be something negative, scary, a place where there is no happiness (and usually people writing those stories have only surrface level understanding of Russia, or any former socialist republic) so seeing a place that looks something I know and do have positive memories of is real... nice. And being able to create the town that is no doubt familiar to so many people even if its wholly fictional takes amazing skills. Can't wait to see the full game. Życzę Wam powodzenia!

I grew up in a town that was built in part of the 1960s new town movement in the North of England. I'm sure there are many, many differences from the towns that sprung up around Moscow and northern England, but I can sense this game might catch a similar feeling of cosiness and also the feeling of detachment/dysfunction of growing up in a town that was made with a template. Really looking forward to this!!

Why all of you British guys think that 'a town outside of Moscow' equals 'a Moscow's suburb'? The real thing he said is they want to recreate a typical Russian/Soviet town built in the XX-th century anywhere in Russia, from Khabarovsk in the Far East to Kaliningrad on the Baltics. Technically, they all are located outside of Moscow.

But really I could have said "towns that sprung up around Russia" and meant the same thing. Yeah, I didn't word it well and I didn't mean to imply they were the same thing. :)

@@NyleGames Well, I guess, that's more the translator's fault. For a Russian person 'city outside of Moscow Ring Road' means 'any Russian city except Moscow' not depending of distance from the Road. I don't have an idea how to translate it not using tons of words.

It's so wild to go from such a unique, otherworldly place like the Town on Gorkhon to one that's so nondescript that it feels familiar to everyone. Definitely looking forward to this game!

While the Town on Gorkhon is unique in terms of architecture and art style, the feeling, as well as social issues it's provide are the same as just about every small town on the border of Russia with Kazakhstan and Mongolia. They just stretch this generalized feeling to the whole of the Eastern Block rather than to the specific geographic region of steppe towns.
