Why would you untape your hoops? Well, most of the taped practise hoops get chipped after a time . We apply tapes on the hoops not only so it looks good but also to increase the durability of the hoop. The tubing is protected from abrasion by the think layer of these tapes.Practise hoops often fall and the tapes can wear off creating a resistance in the grip.
You should untape your practise hoop tapes every 6 months and tape it with a new one to increase the durability of the product and give a new look/colour. I usually apply fresh tapes on all my performance hoops because my best kind of hoops are the ones that I practise with. I tape them with a new colour mostly to match it with other hoops as well that I use in my act.
A good tape reflects better in sunlight and other stage lights so a fresh tape can enhance the visual experience for the viewers.
Happy hooping !
