I think if it's just some person, sure, but she and Andy were friends in the game, and her helping him explain his game was basically his only shot to have any chance in front of the jury. He was coming to her out of desperation, not gloating. I don't think asking that is some inherently selfish thing, especially when you, as Rachel, know that if you get to the end, you'll beat Andy very easily, so of course he has to get her out if he doesn't want to just give up.

Great point re: Sam’s shirt. I noticed he wears his shirt a lot and rarely goes shirtless. He has the most defined farmers tan I’ve seen on survivor maybe ever. Usually farmers tans are for early episodes but his has only gotten stronger. Maybe that’s part of the winner edit

Feel like the only way Sam has a chance is by pulling off what Chris Underwood did in season 38. Win the final challenge, give the necklace to Sue or Teeny, and pick off the guaranteed winner(Rachel) in a fire challenge. I don't see that occurring however.

Why? I'm not sure what Racheal has done except get lucky with being given advantages. I could easily see Sam getting Sierras, Andy's, Gabe, Kyle's, and Genevieve's vote, even against Racheal at Final Tribal. I seriously don't understand why Rachel's being overhyped.

@dawngreene9930 Racheal was basically given an idol. Sam way out played her on gata, by allying with sierra and Andy. Sam has been a target since right after the merge and still stayed in the game. Sam has maneuvered perfectly in the post merge, he took andy and Genevieve on reward and helped craft and execute operation italy. He then did what he had to by turning on Genevieve in order to stay in the game. But oh yeah racheal was gifted an idol and then gifted an advantage by sol. Her only accomplishment is her immunity wins. None of her alliances have held for long or accomplished much. Most overhyped survivor player in recent memory.

Haven’t listened to the podcast yet but wanted to share a thought - I don’t think we should be discounting Sue from winning in a post-Gabler world. Her finale edit last night was definitely reminding me of Gabler’s finale edit. If she takes out Rachel in fire somehow, I could see Caroline, Gabe, Kyle, and Rachel voting for her, with the possibility of Teeny breaking a tie in her favor over Sam. Assuming that Sue won’t win is how the whole survivor fanbase ended up with egg on our face when Gabler won. I’m not saying it’s the most likely, or most desirable, outcome, however there IS a chance of it. I hope the Know It Alls don’t completely dismiss the SUE-nami 🌊

I think for comparisons to past players, Genevieve is a lot like Jesse Lopez. A complex villain character who struggles with walking the line of being the ice cold calculated villain but also dealing with the emotional side of crushing the dreams of people youve come to like and respect and thus playing a very lonely game. That as well as becoming an end game final boss for players to finally vanquish for their winning game (Rachel finally defeating Genevieve to maybe win the game/everyone wanting to be the one to vanquish Jesse to win 43)

I think Rob really made the case for Dee in the process of trying to make the case for Rachel. All those things you mentioned do tend to get you voted out in the new era. And yet Dee did them all and was able to win from that very controlling position where she never needed to win out, didn't need idols, controlled who went home consistently to do the most to prevent a counterattack on her power base, etc. even while being the biggest threat that was known as such from pretty early into the merge. Dee didn't deal with adversity because she directed all the votes to get out people who were saying her name or she didn't feel she could work with. It wasn't luck that she didn't have adversity, it was design. It's a harder path to walk in the new era, but if you can walk it, you have so much more safety and are so much less reliant on winning immunities or playing idols, which can be much more crapshoot-y than social control. I do agree with you wholehearedly on this not being about finding negatives for Rachel. She's great, and if she wins, she'll likely be the second best, it's just that Dee is the best of the new era and one of the best of all time.

I was pondering over what would happen if Rachel/Sam are both in the final three as well. While I very much expect Rachel to win in that scenario, based on her resume and the edit, it feels more interesting than any alternative scenario. The only sure votes for Rachel are Caroline/Sue. I thought Sierra is definitely be a Sam vote and I likely Andy, as Sam saved Andy and took him on reward, while Rachel voted him out. Maybe Gen too but not sure about the other three. Teeny would break a 4-4 tie in Rachel's favour so Sam would somehow need to pick up five votes. Presumably nobody would vote for Teeny, to avoid the risk of a 4-3-1 vote.

Glad Stephen defended Teeny's vote for Sam. To me, it seemed like it was a planned vote split because they didn't know if Gen's idol were real or not. If it were real, and Gen nullifies 2 votes, Sue nullifies Gen and Sam's votes because of her idol (I'll bet the million that Sue told at least Rachel) and Sam goes home with Teeny's one vote.

i can agree that Rachel has some strategic quips, but best player in the new era? Definitely not. A lot of her game was luck based, and she did use the situations she was in to her advantage but without the multitude of contingency’s that happened for her to win doesn’t make her the best player in the new era. It’s Dee, or Jesse, or Charlie to bring up a couple names.

I understand and respect a winner going through adversity, but I think you need to look at *why* they had to go through that adversity. For Rachel, she discarded Andy at the start of the game which directly led to Andy going to Sierra & Sam instead. It was Rachel’s fault that Anika went home and she was blindsided. That was just bad on her part. The luck-based stuff is a nothingburger for me. She got screwed on the tribe split vote, but then got lucky with Sol’s found advantage. The luck evened out there. She’s still a really good player and doesn’t have many flaws. But Dee is still very easily the best player of the New Era, imo. Rachel is about on par with Yam Yam, which is still incredibly high for the New Era.

How the hell is Rachel the "perfect new are player" when we already had that person, GABLER!!! HE got to the end without ever being noticed as a threat, the ONLY time he was ever in trouble was his first tribal council, when he put himself in trouble. He went the entire merge knowing who was going always and never was in hot water, he is the perfect new era player and I am tired of people not seeing it.... Rachel definitely had a more entertaining edit but no way she is the "perfect new are player".

Love you guys Rob and Stephen. I agree more so with Stephen that Rachel is really good underdog player. I agree that it’s a good skill set for the new era but we’ve seen how difficult it is to be a group in control of the game in the new era and I keep going back to how incredible the Reba 4s run in S45 was. No Dee didn’t have to play from the bottom like Rachel but that’s because she had such a good control of the game and her group of 4. She didn’t have big moveitis and try to eliminate Julie and Drew right away, she secured her hold of the game until she could blindside her alliance before they could get her. She also won three important immunity challenges as well. This is no disrespect to Rachel but you guys are praising her for things like killer instinct and finding advantages/winning important immunities as a known threat. that sounds more like Ben D and Mike H and they are not as respected of winners. No shade to Rachel, she is a good player, just my thoughts.

I will never understand the obsession with Andy. Operation Italy was great, and kudos to him for that, but he was all talk and no action for the rest of the season. He’s only lasted this long because everyone else has been dragging him along, hoping to sit next to him at the end. He talked so much about how no one saw his game, but it’s because he didn’t have a game for the majority of the season. He just flipped and went along with other people’s plans. If he were sitting at the end next to anyone other than Teeny and Sue, he’d have been a zero-vote finalist if not for Operation Italy. Even with Operation Italy, he’d easily lose to Rachel and maybe even Sam if Rachel weren’t there. Like what else has he actually done except Operation Italy? If they bring him back for 50, he’ll almost certainly be one of the first to go because everyone knows his whole strategy is just flipping, and you can’t rely on him at all. No one wants to play with someone like that. He’s gotten an extremely generous edit because they wanted another redemption arc like Emily, and it’s mind-blowing to me that the vast majority of fans don’t see it. Like, I fully expect this comment to get zero likes but that’s fine.

Rachel is second to Dee. I think the idea Rachel was a huge threat before Operation Italy is a bit exaggerated. Dee set up and managed the structure that allowed her to win. The difficulty level shouldn’t be diminished because managing that type of game is not an easy task.

The show has *never* made it this obvious going into the finale. I mean obvious beyond an edgic level. Sure, Dee, Kenzie, Yam Yam all had great edits on an edgic level, BUT we didn’t have the editors constantly showing us “They will win!!!” to this extent that Rachel has. Because otherwise the final tribal would be obvious. I think Sam wins.

Sue is a hoarder of idols. She just doesn't know how and when to play them. What a waste of an idol. She could have used it to save Caroline or Gabe but selfish Sue wanted that ornament to hang it on her Christmas tree back home. On the other hand Teeny didn't come to play Survivor. She just came to tag along with contestants who win reward challenges and if she wasn't invited to one, she will have a meltdown on that and throw them under the bus. Haha.

Rachel has played an AMAZING game, and I don't think she's gotten the edit to deserve it. We barely know her as a person. Difference between playing for the audience and playing the actual game I guess. The goal is to convince the jury and Charlie objectively failed at that so I don’t see how there’s an argument. I could see *maybe* arguing for ppl who fell short like Jesse but Charlie made it to the end, stated his case, and still lost. That could never equate to best player to me.

I'm starting to think it'll be unanimous for Rachel. I have a feeling Caroline will pick "big moves" over "loyalty." It was cool seeing Sue use her idol, but she didn't need it. Loyalty worked in the early seasons, but it's all about a stacked resume nowadays, and sue kind of just cruised along according to the edit job.

The new meta of voting out every minor threat that pops up has to stop. Having the final four comprised of coasters is not good entertainment. Rachel won't be a bad winner but certainly no where near a great one.

She’d be the 2nd best winner of the new era, no question. Only behind Dee. A few of the other recent winners are nowhere close to her.

@@tallmighty2344 The last memorable winner for me was Jeremy Collins season 29. I can't decide if it being a returning season made it more or less impressive.

Im so sad Andy has gone. He played the best game, better than Rachel. So unlucky! Could of won.

Is Stephen watching the interviews with the eliminated players? They have all said Andy was constantly needing reassurance and babying/watching - he was not ‘always positive’ and the fact that he is so sure Andy will come back but not so sure about Genevieve? Reminds me of last season where Stephen thought Hunter would go far / even win and Rob had many good points about how that wouldn’t be the case and all Stephen could say was ‘ohh are these personal opinions? These don’t seem formed from gameplay’ …. Like this dude is obsessed with praising mediocre men any chance he gets.
