As a story of positive thinking helping. I am a pretty stoic guy, loner, unemotional, etc. I was in my first 50k and the Naak drink hit my stomach pretty hard at 13 mi (first time I ever had it). So I am struggling on the trail trying to keep the pace reasonable but having to walk a lot. Then.. out of nowhere in the middle of the forest.. there was a cheer squad of college age men and women.. yelling and screaming their heads off. “You can do it”, “Let’s go!”.. etc.. and for some magical reason I cannot explain.. my legs came back, my stomach settled down and I was back! Be positive , you are doing hard things, you are blessed to be able to have the choice to do hard things. The mind gives up before the body, the mind can dwell on negative things that affect your race, keep focused and moving forward. Oh and cut your toe nails and lube your cheeks.. you ain’t going to positive think your way out of that.

Hey man. Just found your channel. Great videos. I’m just starting my journey towards (maybe) doing an ultra. Nice to hear what a non-elite has to say about it all. If you’re looking to work on your power hiking, might want to take a look at how some of the guys train for Goruck events.

I dropping out of Ogden,I’m not in shape and worst of all my mind is not into it . Running has to be enjoyable to make a long distance run and I’m not enjoying , I feel angry that I’m not where I thought I would be . So going forward I will be training all summer for my first 50k at 53 years old . Congratulations on your run Brad!

@@bradfinntrains oh ok that's awesome! Random but did you happen to notice if using that feature had an impact on the battery life?

@@jeffwise6937I use it often and haven’t noticed it affect my watch battery life, I believe the phone just pings a server with your location and the people watching you race get that update. So your phone battery life will be affected a bit but not the watch. If you are in a region with little cell coverage then the battery of the phone will drop faster because searching for towers constantly is a battery intensive thing.

@@jeffwise6937It requires you also have your phone on you connected to Bluetooth. I have a Garmin Instinct and ran 30km over 4 hours with live-track on. Started at 100% battery and ended at around 70%. Pretty decent performance!
