As we age, our bones get more valuable. Discretion - you made the right choice. I'm 80 and still trail ride but use less throttle nowadays. And am content to take up the rear of the group. I eat less dust by lagging behind but still have fun.

You’re right about mom. My mom said “those injuries will come back to haunt you later in life!” Yep, she was right. Just because you can do it doesn’t mean you need to do it. I have found that at a certain age/experience, even testosterone can be reasonable? Ha ha ha. And, how many times do you need to beat the mountain? “Mountains got its way Jeremiah Johnson.” It will get its way in the end.

@@jrdepew You said in the video you put a D607 tire on the rear, those look very street oriented, are you happy with it?
@jrdepewАй бұрын
I have run them before and they do fine for my riding. Two reasons, they are cheaper than the D606 and quieter on the street. They are probably a 60-40 tire. They are soft and wear sooner than the D606.
@JohnEmerich-y5tАй бұрын
Good to know. Recently forced into retirement and got back into riding, would love to do some BDR type trips like you do. Just know wearing out the stock tires on my CRF300L and trying to decide what to replace them with, like the early reviews on the Tusk Waypoints? Can I ask what GPS or map program you use while riding?

@JohnEmerich-y5t I have been using GaiaGPS or Gaia on an android old phone and recently a tablet.

That was a good decision not going into those rocks. Sometimes I think that by riding in a group if one goes through then the rest must follow. The only good thing about that is that if you hurt yourself the others should be able to help you. You did the best thing for you and who knows, you could have made it through and then again you could have broken something. Take care and enjoy the experience of New Mexico riding, lots and lots of BLM land out here to enjoy.

After nearly 40 years of riding I'm starting to push the envelope of Senior Adventure Riding. First thing to go for me has been my vision. I couldn't help to notice the tablet mount your running in this video. I'd love to hear more about what you're using if you don't mind sharing. Using the larger screen of a tablet just seems like a no brainer for us with aging eyes.
@jrdepewАй бұрын
Many have commented on the tablet. I may have to make a video on it… It’s a Samsung Tab7 Lite. eBay 65$. A protective case with silicone cover, (Amazon) Quadlock JB Welded to back and mounted to handlebars with Quadlock ball mount and short Ram mount. I use Gaia maps. Works good except a bit dim in bright sunlight.

@@jrdepew I’ve logged many street miles from the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia to the Hill Country in Texas, and it wasn’t until we moved to New Mexico that I discovered Adventure riding two years ago. Got a question maybe you can help me with. Just did about six days of day riding around Canyon lands . Learning curve was straight up thoroughly. Enjoyed it. Plan to head back in April and do some more then come back to Washington and do the Washington BDR. But I can't see my phone in the sunlight or without reading glasses, old man syndrome, I guess , and that's a pain in the butt. I see you have a large screen that you're using. If you've covered it in one of your previous videos, maybe you can pointed out to me. Or give me a brief description of what you're using how you like it. Thanks for the videos. I've enjoyed everyone I've seen so far.
