By law, serving sizes must be based on the amounts of food and beverages people typically consume, rather than how much they should consume. The serving size is not a recommendation of how much to eat or drink. Serving sizes have been updated to reflect the amount people typically eat and drink today. The nutrition information listed on the label is usually based on one serving. Keep in mind, one package of food may contain more than one serving.
