I've been tying black hair on my poppers this past year and have caught more bass on a popper than before. I'm going to use a popper as a floater this year. Thanks, Matt, for sharing. 😀

Without saying much, I must say flowy snakey is the best. Your concepts and theories are right for the most part. The rabbit hole as they say goes deep even in this art alone. Main thing to know is knowing what to use and when to use it with a high emphasis on using it more or whenever you can.

🍺Feathers/hair/flashabou tinsel/etc is arguably the single most affective way to fool fish in general not just bass. Especially in clear water. It gives your bait extremely lifelike momovement in water when resting and or when changing directions. It is why so many amazing fish have been fooled on hair jigs. 🤠

Thanks Matt for covering this topic. I have tyed feathered theble hooks myself throughout the years. For a Pop R & for Zara Spooks & Jr's. It's beneficial. For a Future video, I'd hope that you cover the topic of Split Rings. Round & Oval. Thanks Matt for interacting with the viewers.

I hand make my own blade baits. And only about 1/3 of them are sporting dressed trebles on back, mostly flashaboo. Anytime me and my partner are fishing them at the same time, one has a dressed treble bait on and the other a standard treble. We have never been able to pinpoint why or under what conditions the bass prefer a dressed treble, but sometimes they definitely do. The exception however is when water temps bottom out in winter and all our bites are coming on small hops on bottom, below suspended shad schools. In that situation, a pearl white 1/4 ounce blade with white bucktail is the hands-down killer on my home lake. The bucktail mutes the action and slows the bait coming up and falling. White bass, hybrids & stripers seem much less picky about dressed or not on same bait.

🍺I have feathered trebles on almost all of my hard baits. HUGE fan and personally know it helps. It adds up quickly when you change out 100’s of stock trebles with Gamakatsu feathered trebles but to me it’s worth it. I also enjoy doing it and if you do your colors correctly it makes your baits look so good you may even want to eat it yourself🤠.

You get a better action if you learn to make your own right. I'm talking everything overall, not just colors. Most feathers people make are just average. For those basic ones, just buy them.

That jogged my memory. I hadn't thought about this in forever but back in the early 70's when the Big O came out I bought the Cotton Cordell version in a yellow color with a dark back and put a yellow dressed hook on the back and caught a ton of fish on Lake Travis. Of course that was the only lure I used. Good tip...I need to tie up some dressed trebles. Keep warm.

All poppers and prop lures get a fairly sparse feathered treble. Most walkers get a sparse feathered treble except for all the different Heddon spook models, they get no dressing as it would kill much of the good glide action. Cranks and jerkbaits get no dressing except for a couple of the smaller things I throw will get a very sparse dressing, mainly to make the lure look a little larger. Matt the catfishers have found your comment section.

I know an angler that removes the rear treble, and ties a short piece of line with a crappie maribou jig on the end....been doing it for years & does catch bass consistently

Great video as always. I paint/create lures and presentations like this are quite helpful. I have fly tying materials and can make about any color dressing. Question…do you ever add treble hooks that have a spinner blade attached that slightly trails the hooks?

Good video, Matt. So, is the question of when or when not to use a skirt on jig, the same issue as the feathered treble hook or a different set of issues?

You cannot put feathers on ocean stickbaits. Those need distance, speed, etc. Not only that, they are typically finely tuned by the weight of the trebles.
