Coming from the hip-hop and r&b scene, so I listen to all kinds of stuff in those genres from all eras, and I don’t think I’ve ever heard a group of girls do a song like this before. What an incredible vibe and song! Surprised that they’re not all over the radio in the US and more mainstream 😮

You will love XG because all seven members can dance, rap and sing and sound the same live. Here are some recommendations if you wanna hear more of them doing hip hop/and or rnb: - Winter Without You. The First Take version I highly recommend as well because of the live vocals - Woke Up. This song gained them a lot of new fans - Hesonoo & X-Gene. It's short because it's the combined intro from their first mini album but well worth it - Left, Right. Ciara & Jackson Wang made an official remix of that song last year and performed it at Coachella - Shooting Star. It's their most popular song to date and was created in Atlanta back in 2019 - XG TAPE series. It's solely the rap line where they rap over a bunch of beats or do cyphers. Their first cypher even went viral two years ago - XG VOX series. It's solely the vocal line singing covers, including several rnb songs I forgot to also mention that they toured the US last month for their first ever world tour The First Howl where they did sold out shows in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Grand Prairie, Sugarland, Duluth, New York City and Chicago. So if you wanna see more of their live stuff just look for XG First Howl (*insert the American city). The reason they're not more mainstream yet is because they're not signed with a big label in Asia which other Asian groups are that you hear on radio in the US. because they have a tie or also signed to a Geffen, Warner or Universal for example.

I personally didn’t pick up on any horror references, outside of just setting the mood using [as you said] a black and white setting with darker imaging. (The glow and slightly tan coloring that is on those b&w scenes add something cool to it. Kinda modern.) So I’d love to see someone who is an even bigger horror fan than myself react to this - see if they notice any specific references. Given that they’re Japanese, I’d think some of their myth-centric cinema would be present. Anyway! Loved this reaction from you. Gonna share it with my sisters who came to see XG in concert with me a month ago. :)

Film nerd here. The greenery/flowers sprouting from feet, man and planet looks like a reference to Annihilation, a 2018 sci-fi horror. The b&w parts remind me of scenes from the 1902 Georges méliès film A Trip to the Moon (Le Voyage dans la Lune). Other than that, Princess Mononoke (1997) is heavily represented and Cocona’s bone outfit is very Mad Max.
