Ren's dad Martin Gill bought him a small beat up guitar when he was 8 years old, Ren took it everywhere with him and taught himself to play. His mother Hannah and Martin took Ren to many music festival including Renaissance festivals, between those and the tradition of British pantomime theatre likely inform some of Ren's story telling. The guitar intros very much give the feel of a Medieval bard telling a story or the music you'd hear for a TV or film at the start of a quest.

I am a 68 year old woman who has never enjoyed any kind of rap music and avoid it as much as possible. Mostly because of the rapid pace, I just can’t follow the dialogue and very often I don’t understand what’s being said so it’s not enjoyable. And then I came across Ren on YT and was immediately enamored with his talent. I would still struggle with the lyrics here and there because of diminished hearing but you really helped make it more accessible to me by breaking it down, repeating the lyrics that I may have missed and making it a lot more meaningful. I really appreciate that because it helped me enjoy Ren’s artistry to the fullest. Keep up the great work. 😊

I'm thrilled to see that you're doing this song and I assume that you're going to do Screech and Violet as well in order to complete the trilogy. I do have to say however, that while I understand you doing them individually, especially as a reaction channel, imho watching them back-to-back (Ren compiled them into a single video on his page called The tale of Jenny and Screech (full) if that makes it easier) is the best way to do it. It almost loses a little something when you split them up. But seeing them back-to-back is like a 1-2-3 punch to the gut. But as always, great reaction. You do you. I'm here for it either way.

I hope you'll react to a lot of Ren's stuff. The way you react to songs, understand intricacies should be very interesting given how complex and carefully built Ren's songs are. At the very least, let us have the whole trilogy. And if you still enjoy Ren and - hopefully views are giving you further incentive to react- we could maybe see your take on pieces like Money Game part 1 & part 2, Chalk Outline, Genesis, Power, and maybe some of his retakes which are just amazing. One little comment to the song and reaction: You caught it right away, how Ren integrated the "escape" into the frame of the song, and in this trilogy he does a lot of similar narrative building intricacies, but I also love that in Jenny's Tale, he has a middle reference/forshadowing, when Screech threatens Jenny and says "or soon you'll be free". Which for me is such a clever little spin. It is basically the same as escaping, but using a different expression as the line is part of Screech's narration, whereas the "chorus" is part of Jenny's. Anyway, awesome reaction, it's always fun following along you as you explore music.

Check out "Humble" by Ren if you have not heard it yet. Its not as much a story but its one of his best, in my opinion. Screech's tale and Jennys Tale are great too, all 3 go together. Money Game 1, 2 and 3 are great tracks too. He truly has a phenomenal back catalogue. Also, his busking band is called The Big Push do absolutely phenomenal covers and some really good originals too. I forgot Genesis is a great tune, Children Of The Moon, How To Be Me, they are all great tunes, shit he has very little that are not good.

I watched this trilogy of Ren's and Hi Ren so many times and have watched so many reaction videos from musical professionals. While other's often talk over my head about what key he's in or what he's doing stylistically, this is all stuff beyond my limited knowledge. What I love about your channel is that you're easy to understand, or perhaps you explain better what you're talking about. You break down rhyme schemes that I don't realize are there, to me, it just sounds good, but you explain why it sounds good in a way I feel like anyone could understand. And you point out things that I haven't seen any other reaction reviewer point out, that are in plain sight, such as the "escape" part of the song. Love your channel!
