What a brillant video ! This lovely radio needs to be called lazurus - what a fantastic recovery and showing us all along the way. I really enjoyed watching this from start to finish. Thanks again. Al.ze

Dang I would love to have two of those here in United States. I have been looking for a British frequency CB radio for a long time they’re just not available here that I can find. Great set up video enjoyed watching here in the United States. Stay safe mate

try ebay UK. Yout should be able to get any "british" rig you want, assuming the seller will post to the states. i've bought 6 ssb/am cb radios from the usa that were never sold and therefore usually unobtainable the UK. No problem shipping to the uk {or rather flying} except for being screwed on import duty tax, V.A.T. etc, and sometimes rip off postage prices ........

Brilliant. The Amstrad 901 was my first ever rig back in the mid 80s and I loved it to bits. I still have it somewhere. Always worked perfectly and never let me down. They were unfairly derided - perhaps in part because of the name, also because of the 'fake' non-Japan-originated examples - but I think they deserve a better reputation. Your video certainly goes some way to demonstrating just how good they can be. Great work sir. :-)
@knoxieman2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, yes the bad reputation came from the 2 Honk Kong variants, really don't go anywhere near a Hong Kong variant, I don't even use them as scrap chassis.

The rig scrubbed up really good nice resurrection, i used to pick these up all day long for next to nothing back in the day and if a mates cb went down i used to give them away.. i wish i had a cupboard full of them now lol. They had a bad reputation in there heyday which the radio didn't really deserve, not the Japanese version anyway, those cheaper boards from Hong Kong seen to that.. Still a great radio and one of my all time favourite rigs and the Roger bleep is about as recognisable as a cobra's with it's own distinct sound. Very nice, and a very informative video.

I've just restored a 901 today using the manual and it says that the VCO voltage on transmit for ch.40 is 4 - 5 volts, of which I can't get near but everything does lock. I'm curious where you get over 3.5 v from but that does indeed match my voltage more closely.
@knoxieman2 жыл бұрын
Yes if it locks on all channels that's ok, on some 901 sets a resistor goes bad feeding the lock circuit which can make the voltage different, check tx and Rx on all channels also check the power is the same on all channels and you should be good.

I have a question anyone know what walkie talkies the police use in the video clip of so lonely The Police - So Lonely walky talkie ?
@knoxieman2 жыл бұрын
It was filmed in Tokyo in 1978 they were likely either the film crews radios or bought locally, I can't match them from the video, they aren't Motorola i know that much, there have been so many different walkie talkies made over the years it's a guess, also a lot of brands were custom with switches and dials added to suit a particular customer requirement.

Great video. Shouldn’t the RX and TX lights be red for transmit and green for receive ? On that 901 it’s the other way around.
