The Old Traffic Tones....BRING EM BACK! How boring it is now,all sounds the same. When you listened to it in the old days you would perk up and listen when you heard the tones.

Holy shit I finally found it! I remember hearing that traffic tune all the time, especially whenever gone on errands with my dad. I just never knew what station he was listening to until now! Glad to have found it, definitely unlocked a lot of forgotten memories. I wish they brought it back, I’d listen to the radio a lot more often just for that lol

Was a kid in the mid 90s when my father would listen to this in the kitchen while cooking in the late evening. The traffic tone brings back child hood memories

KNX used to be great when they used to broadcast the KNX Drama Hour. I can understand the cancellation since you can listen to old time radio on line. I'm glad I taped episodes of the Drama Hour between 1998 , and 2003. I' m trying to get my teen age son to upload them on line. I gotta find a tape cassette player though.

the old KNX jingle and traffic tones are a source of warm comfort for me, along with Larry Van Nuys

This sounder package had a lot of guts, and you needed that when 1070 was on AM. What was cool was they retained the Axxess Broadcasting's 1989 sounder package for the bottom of the hour at that point. It was a nice mix of sounds. Listened to 1070 on an actual radio on the 15 heading to Vegas 3 years ago and 1070 sounded like dead station. Now on 97.1 it sounds even worse.

San Diego always has been able to get KNX. I lived in San Diego for 31 years and KNX always came in. Unfortunately, they never mention San Diego area traffic in their reports, except in rare cases, and since San Diego has no all-news station, if something happens on the roads in San Diego late at night, there's no news outlet to report it. The only station I can think of that ever reported on traffic in both San Diego and Los Angeles was XTRA in the late 80s/early 90s. And since traffic is bad, especially on Interstates 5 and 15 leaving the San Diego area (and I-5 entering the San Diego area from LA), it really should be reported on, but isn't. And the San Diego and Los Angeles areas are really part of the same megalopolis. Even on weekends, I-5 through San Clemente, Camp Pendleton, and Oceanside are terrible. Living in Baltimore now, the same problem exists in regards to reporting on traffic in both the Baltimore and Washington, DC areas. Only one station in the Beltway metroplex, as I refer to it, reports on the traffic conditions in both areas, despite the fact that Baltimore and DC are 30 miles apart.

Was this recorded from an internet feed? The highs are very crisp, with frequencies up to 10kHz. I didn't think that possible on AM radio.

Yup, must of been from the stream or HD Radio. Even with KNX's powerful signal, this is just much too clear.

That might had been a spliced cut of the bottom of the hour from that 1989 Axcess Broadcasting sounder package; that 1070 was still using. Cut 13 if I am not mistaken...
