Sawadee khap my farangutan friends and puan puan khun Thai. This vlog is from Ko Rat, Koh Rat, Koh Raet, Ko Raet...well you will see it has many different spellings. As part of our Sothern Songkran adventures, we visited this unique island accessed by a 400 metre single track bridge. There are under 200 buildings on the island and most of them are on stilts.
This is a working fisherman's village and tourism only really started after the bridge was completed in 2009 and officially opened in 2010. Most of the tourism is Thai it would seem. However, a couple of local women from the island had relationships with some Germans. They invited friends and foreign tourism started to pick up. That said, aside from our group, I didn't see any farangutans on the island.
We did have a guest presenter, John, John, Popadom. Unfortunately, the wind was strong on the island on the south side, so we lost a lot of information about the island from him. Once we hit the north the wind had died down and we can hear John chatting to the friendly locals. They all sit out at dusk and it's all very communal. Something we don't see too often in the modern world.
