Great video.. I had the same problem with my Kobalt battery. Where it didn't show any lights...the fusible link was shorted. I did exactly what you did by jumping the fuse and it started working.. which is great.. I truly appreciate the insight.

I also have a 24v kobalt that feul guage flashes all 4.lights, charger says its charged. I heard its on safety mode and theres a reset on board??

I dont have one to look at any more. Take it apart and see what you find. If you make a video it miight help someone else.

Id say its possible, likely to be a tedious task. But it would be safer with a more predictable operation. I would have no clue of what rating is needed. Maybe if you have a working unit yo could disassemble that part might have a visible rating.

You mention that by bridging the blown fuse that you are bypassing the safety feature. My question is if I do this what can I expect to happen if it tries to blow what cant be blown, an explosion, a fire or...?? Just curious, thx

I am not 100% sure but I think it’s more likely you’ll kill some cells or blow something in the electronics maybe the motor.

Well I took mine apart because it's the same battery, Kobalt 2 AH with exactly the same symptoms as the one in your video however the fusible Link in mine is still intact, so there must be some other component(s) bad. Ill chuck it in the junk drawer I guess lol. Thanks 🙋‍♂️

@@kenclinton4881 did you actually verify continuity from both sides with a multimeter? I have seen fuses that looked ok visually but were no good.

If you are referring to the continuity between the big metal blades at opposite ends then yes I did, it went from OL. to 00.0. Everywhere I read voltage it reads 9.47ish

I have the Kobalt 24 volt 4Ah battery and the fuel guage flashes all 4 lights, but won't power the drill. The lights flash rather than steady glow, the other batteries are steady glow and work fine. Any ideas? Thank you

If it were me, I’d remove the case and measure each cells voltage and the whole pack voltage. If all is well look for burnt parts on the HMS board. But I suspect it’s just dead. If it’s too low the factory charger won’t charge it. In a case like that I take the case off and charge the cells directly. Often the pack will come back, but just as often when a pack goes all the way dead one or two of the cells go bad. They will get hot or just not hold a charge. In those cases I just harvest the good cells.

my batteries are both full & I put in the drill it operates normal for about 12 second then it stops & the lights constantly flashes .... & won't do anything until I reseat the battery .... not sure what to do to fix

thanks for the video. Mine shows continuity between the positive and negative, yet the fuel gauge does not work and it won't take the charge either. Any idea?

I’d start by measuring voltage at the cells first To see if the battery is any good .

@@lmorrison17 same thing happened to me. New battery. Fuel gauge doesn't light and wont charge in charger. It will turn the light on on my impact but wont turn it. I tried another new battery and charger and impact work fine. Any ideas? If it's the cells, what should each read? Thanks

@lmorrison17 Is this your first time doing this to a battery? What causes this to happen to the battery ?

It is not my first time there was one other I ran across this issue and there’s a video on here for that one. What causes it is the tool trying to draw too much power for the fuse rating. Things that will cause it are saw blade getting stuck or a drill bit binding up.

@@lmorrison17 OKay thanks . I really appreciate your reply . i got a battery like this from ebay. I plan to add cells to it so i wanted to know what causes it before i proceed with my plan.
