Great video! I like how you added the map between the segments. It helped me with visualizing the areas you talked about. I was so excited/nervous when I thought you were actually going in the tunnels! 😅

just discovered your channel, it is great. The videos are detailed, while not being dry at all.

You are an absolute legend, London traffic is crazy loud and crazy crazy. It's good to see KZbinrs detailing UK's Cold War History, it definitely needs highlighting. Well done

Here in Texas, our air raid sirens weren't taken down after the Cold War ended, because we had already gotten used to them *being used*... for severe thunderstorms & tornadoes. After all, we're second only to Oklahoma for tornadoes here on Earth, and average 132 of them a year statewide. In fact, my city - Fort Worth - upgraded the local system between 20 & 10 years ago, & we now have 150 of them citywide, that faithfully go off whenever big hail (that can exceed the size of baseballs!), fierce winds, flash floods, and/or a twister's imminent.

In the Netherlands we also kept our air raid sirens as a disaster warning system. On the first Monday of every month at noon they go off to test the system, which apparently startles many tourists.

@@passantNL ha! they get tested on the 3rd Wednesday monthly here, & they also scare the stuffing out of tourists from places not as used to such things.

We have them here in Minnesota too. And yes, for decades their primary purpose has been to warn of severe weather, to the point that we call them "tornado sirens". They're tested at 1 PM on the first Wednesday of every month.

The dead letter boxes were my favourite, especially the one on Audley Square

I see that siren in Waterloo everyday on my way to work. It seems to be still wired up and ready to go

Cold War MPs: I need to go to the fire extinguisher factory for um…government contract over sight. Cabbie: Aren’t you on the intelligence committee? MP: Yes but erm… we have fires that need putting out.

I’ve done courses in the tower and got stuck in a toilet when the lights went out, it went completely pitch black and I could see absolutely nothing!

If the spy ring members had tried asking somebody familiar with Cambridge, Massachusetts, for directions to Harvard Square, they might have gotten a response "Well, first you take the Piccadilly Line out to Heathrow, catch a non-stop flight to Boston, take the Silver Line to the Red Line to Harvard Square Station. Oh... that was a rhetorical question, wasn't it?"

Is it possible was put put out as security service blind as information is old public knowledge from Duncan Campbell's 'UK War Plan'. This also missed out key interesting facts on Klaus Fuchs and Oleg Gordievsky all available online.

The secret service stopped using the telecom tower ,when during the cold war they realised any signals they sent could be intercepted by the USSR ,whose embassy was at queen's gate ,And in direct line to the telecom tower 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
