No, it's not possible to choose different cc. It's predetermined that all player will have the same 150cc. But each player can have different vehicle status (speed, acceleration, weight, handling, traction) based on how they build their vehicle.

The thing is that babies and light weight characters accelerate fast but they are slow (low top speed with excellent maneuverability). Heavy characters are fast (high top speed) but slow acceleration and medium characters are in the middle. Kobo chose a very slow character so even if she passed them at one point, being slow and a bad driver made her be 12th many times. Of course the car and the tires also count but the character you choose defines the overall speed that you will have in the race (i believe that aside from her, nobody chose a light character).
