FINALLY!!! About time one of the big 3 in the US has done this. I'm definitely going to get the Libra Color. My only issue with Kobo is the lack of Audible, but that's a given seeing as its Amazon. But this will be my first Kobo product and I can't wait.

The reviewer seems genuinely excited about this colour version. I really hope it lives up to the hype! But typically, it's going to be 300 ppi bw and 150 ppi colour. It's not good enough, but transitory until we reach a version with 300 ppi colour.

@@Bay5922 I never said you didn’t deserve colour ereaders…. I just said I love how I’ve never once seen an American explain or justify their spelling of color in any video yet anyone who spells it differently (which is most of the English speaking world) seems to feel the need to explain or justify their spelling because Americans spell it differently. Just something I’ve noticed in this overly US-centric world is all 🤷🏼♀️

Well done Kobo a big step in the right direction. Amazon’s Kindle is looking more and more outdated, as if Amazon has given up on e ink readers.

I wondered when you were going to unbox/review the new Kobo's. I have pre-ordered the Kobo Libra Colour and am very exited. I currently have the Kobo Sage, but I'm extremely annoyed at it short battery life (less than one book on one charge). I do hope it will be better on the new devices.

Does this actually support Pocket article reader as they say in the website?. I am an long-journalism article reader mostly, i still don´t get why e-reader industry narrows on "books only". It is like buying a stereo receiver that only plays classical music. I am reluctanct to go for android-base doubtful support of chinese devices, so may be i'll need to wait some more couple of years for this to come. In the meantime... eyes-strained.

I have the Pocketbook color Kaleido 3 and from the tests it seems that it is the best Reader because unlike the other e-readers it is the one that has the least dark and brightest screen since this is the main problem of this technology at the moment. Perhaps could make a comparison video between the two e-readers. But I think the Kindle color that comes out in 2025 will be the best on the market.
@brownwallet9428 ай бұрын
If you have the Pocketbook color 3 then just be happy with it. I was saving up to get one but when the Kobo colors were released, I never hit preorder this fast. Kobo Libra Color is cheaper than 100 dollars than Inkpad Color 3 and owning the Kobo Touch, I know I'm going to be happy with the simplistic UI. I have read from a reddit post that his Libra Color is sharper than his Inkpad Color 3 but for me it doesn't matter much, just get the cheaper between the two since right now these are the best Kaleido 3 devices out in the market
@goodereader8 ай бұрын
One of the benefits of this one, is the screen is sunken, and the Kaleido 3 layer is at the top of the stack, so colours are better.

👍🏻Cool, but if that backlight is PWM, then it's a dealbreaker... 🥸 (unless it's possible to turn it off completely).
@PhMajerus8 ай бұрын
While I agree PWM-driven is generally less desirable than continuous-current-driven, discarding PWM entirely without talking about the PWM frequency is too reducing. An LED with a continuous current source instead of a PWM source still generates pulsed light because its photons have a fixed power level. It's just that with a continuous current source, the electrons accumulation and recombination + photon emission cycle happens at the ideal frequency, emitting a single photon each time the charge reaches the required band gap level. So a current-driven LED works similarly to a PWM-driven LED, but at its ideal frequency to make the photons emission perfectly evenly spaced. A PWM backlight is therefore a less ideal source, because its frequency cannot reach the ideal frequency because of other physical limitations, but how worse it is depends on its frequency, it's not a clear current versus PWM comparison, it's a gradient going from current-driven to low frequency PWM. Basically one PWM isn't the same as another PWM, a fast PWM can be closer to a continuous-current than to a slow PWM. You should always check the frequency of a PWM-driven LED before judging it.
@barmaley-division8 ай бұрын
@@PhMajerus OK, thanks for the detailed explanation. As an owner of MacBook(s) @117k+ Hz PWM-driven LEDs (2021, 2022 YOP), I feel like I'd probably have my eyes wasted already if I wasn't using my very old Acer monitor with current-driven LEDs... Yes, there are definitely other factors, like blue light emission (MacBook seems to be doing a lot of trickery with the blue LEDs and violet polarizing films and violet anti-glare layer), so probably there's more than PWM effects alone, IDK - the point is the difference is huge. As a consumer, the whole idea of e-ink, its USP is no backlight at all, no flickering. Here it's being challenged with backlight (because color e-ink displays are all still greyish, probably?). Why shouldn't I continue using my cheapest 11" tablet (45 b*cks) with moderate to no issues to my eyes... So, the only thing I'd like to get clarified anyway - *if there is PWM (+ frequency), and if it's possible to turn it off completely, 0%...*
