Nothing short of beautiful. I absolutely LOVE the whistles of the locomotives, they sound like what you would get from an LMS locomotive. Great work on this video.

Thanks Victor Melder!! sharing this. Bring back nostalgic memories of your's & my time in Ceylon Govt.Railways(CGR). Those coal fired giants had been a pride and marvel in mass passenger transport as well as haul of goods by rail than any other mode of transport then.

That was a wonderful journey with a good old steam Loco. I was so lucky to be in these steam locos during my small age with my dad as he was a Station Master during 50's and 60's. A memorable down the lane journey for me too!...

What I like about this is that the loco is hauling this train without the assistance of a diesel at the rear, ever though there are heavy steam leaks.

If you want to see how English railways were 70 years ago go to Sri Lanka. I'm currently here now and it's a blast from the past. Even the signals are English and the rails still have Worthington steel stamped on them haha. Travelling by rail is mega here.

Fantastic video. The second steam engine with highly unusual side tanks for a tender engine really needs the cylinder glands attended to, It was like half the steam on the up stroke was going out the gland!
@KochersbergTV7 жыл бұрын
This poor engine was leaking from the regulator as well to the effect that the staff threatened to go on strike (and that would have been justified in this particular case). So the Sri Lanka railways sent a team to fix... the regulator. And they "forgot" about the cylinder cocks... Too bad. May be they perform better next year. This being said, many thanks for your nice comments.

brings memories back.I hope you could do this time to time.It is important to remember the olden days....Well done..You have no doubt taken great pains to do this. Just one thing I missed. That is how the Train Attendant puts coal into the fureness, inside the engine room and how the driver pulls the string for the horn. Probably, I have missed in watching it. Nevertheless, fantastic.

sri lanka railway also have a garret locomotive , if its restored it can run upcontry without the support of pilot locomotive
@KochersbergTV8 жыл бұрын
+Randika Gunawardena Yes. I saw that locomotive and the remnants of a few more garratts such that one could hope to see one on the track again. I would be positively delighted if that would happen. This being said, the diesel pilot locomotive will always be there, "just to be on the safe side" I am afraid.

RAILsIMAGES I found it very repetitive, too many head on views taken close to the track . No use of the zoom lens and no panning of the train as it passed by, similar to many other peoples videos where they just seem to leave the camera on a tripod then edit it afterward.

The Railway must introduce a Steam train to run between Nana oya to Badulla to accomadate tourists who will be happy to travel in this.The compartments should be of 1st and 2nd class and the SLR can earn a extra income during the tourist season.It seems to be the management do not have ideas or not interested.

I am obliged to agree with you. The engineer sees people on the track, so he whistles. Unfortunately, to make this video, I had to stay along the track. A real nuisance, I agree, but not unique to Sri Lanka, unfortunately.

Terrible editing one scene 1 carriage, the next scene 2 carriages and a diesel banking, the next scene, 1 carriage, the next 2 carriages no diesel, all over the place like a mad woman's shit and every scene wheel slip, haven't they heard of sand to aid in traction, I wonder how many times they have replaced the whistle valve.
@yasirsaheed6 жыл бұрын
The first few scenes were showing the train on the coastal line & the other scenes were from the Main Line (on the hill country), so it was probably from 2 different trips!
