Shin Sung Rok rarely gets a good character or leading male role, it's such a pity since when he smiles, he looks so kind and lovely, and head over heel in love with this woman. This character that he is playing makes people hate him but also feel sorry for him, even tho he did something wrong in the past, I hope in the end, he can redeem himself and start a new good life, maybe not being a royal anymore but he can be with a woman that will love him with her heart, not treating him like a puppet for their purposes.

The Emperor's character is so amazingly complex, big props to the writers for this drama. Just when you hate him so much, you start liking him, then hate him all over again. then at the end, you love him, then the writers slap you so hard with his end. This drama still has those cheesy moments, but the emperor's character feels so human at the same time larger than what seems possible as a human. I LOVE THIS DRAMA.

honestly when i first started watching the drama i thought the emporer was a good guy who is being controlled by his mother. then he suddenly started doing wrong things and it felt so overkill and weird. im pretty sure originally they were meant to end up together and he was not meant to be a bad character, just a passive one who is being controlled by his mother and stuff.. such a missed opportunity bc that would have made the drama way better than the 17282939 plot twists and dramatic elements every five minutes :/

At the end, when the emperor had that stupid smile, his face so obviously delighted, and he ran away giddily like a lovestruck fool........ moments when he's like this are why I feel so bad. On the one hand, I understand why he was the kind of character he was at the beginning, yet on the other..... sigh. The current emperor and princess ari are my sole reasons for wanting to watch this drama. I HATE heavy dramas like these, especially palace dramas, but damn..... I'll go through all that heartache just for them and a happy ending.
