i've seen that in other idols as well, when they travel in other countries, they don't really try local food from there, they just order easily eaten food like pizza, hamburgers and stuff. such a shame though

Maybe they’re afraid of the upset stomach, parasite and diarrhea. Cuz i know some foreigners fell sick after eating local foods in my country, because of the spice or hygiene

That's not true tho. They do try it. BTS mentioned when they went to brazil they had the local food, but the spice was really unfamiliar, so they had difficulty eating it. Solar went to dubai with eric man in an episode of wgm, and had difficulty eating some of the food. There are alot of Koreans who do avoid eating local food, but lots of Koreans do try it, it's just that they have a really hard time adjusting to it. Some people are more open minded, others aren't. It's a matter of individual taste.

I always try out the local cuisine of any place I visit, but at the same time I always enquire about the greasiness and spices. So I order in a way that's not too greasy. It's important to this so that you don't have an upset stomach during a trip. I guess for idols its even more important because they also need to perform in concerts and then take long haul flights. It'd be hell if they get an upset stomach during their tight schedule.

I just watched this episode. My jaw dropped at Hwasa's revelation, but it does track with some other food-related variety shows, where they explicitly mentioned Koreans not being able to handle or liking the "spice" like it's a very common thing. This is what is puzzling for me. There are a variety of spices and flavors in Korean food. Korean food has almost all the flavors, so it is puzzling to me that enough Korean people don't like or cannot handle or don't want to try the flavor combinations of foreign food due to "spice". Like there are so many fermented Korean foods. Crabs and seafood alone have strong, distinct favor profiles. All of the chilies! Pad thai is delicious. I don't understand how anyone who can eat anything that has been fermented (and still has that sour-ish undertaste) could not like pad thai. I don't get it.
