Kids first. No question for me. If my future wife were a close 2nd behind them I'd expect them to understand, and I'd expect them to feel the same. In the end you're closest to your wife, you have the best connection with your wife, your own personal happiness comes from your wife- but kids.. Kids belong in a different category. That's how the world should be, and I'd also want my kids to do the same for their kids, etc. A wife who is fully grown can handle being 2nd, it doesn't make their lives bad, kids deserve everything from their parents and anything less is less than they deserve after I made the choice to bring them into the world.

Father's usually are the ones misunderstood when they say wife first. One father explained to me that He believes the need of both biological parent to raise a child and one missing is greater chance for failure. He puts his wife first because he loves his children and wants them to have the best. If only I can find objective statistics for these but I can only rely on personal testimonies from people around me. I would only assume its not an absolute thing to put your children first or that its the right thing to do since situations does not always agree with your preference or thought process or even emotions. between "Hostage situation" and "a critical labor/ baby delivery" will definitely have different priority for different people, I had asked this question to different couples and the answers are mostly split except for the mother in which case mostly chose their children/baby.

It’s true. It doesn’t mean that the love for their children is lacking, it just means that they’ll treasure each other to the point that the children hopefully understand how their love overflowed and brought them into this world. I’ve seen married couples fight and I know how frustrating it could be on the children (including me). Stable foundations mean that the children would feel safe & protected under both parents’ care. And who knows maybe the dad will raise kids who’ll honor their mom well especially during periods, etc., & vice versa. I also understand what sorts of things one can do when caring for a helpless infant who demands your care and you see the infant grow into a child. That’s also a heroic love, so I understand Haha’s pause. The perceptions might change as time goes by… when Haha’s children become teenagers, get jobs, and start having lives of their own, it might become a different story 😅

I'm with Haha 100%. I mean, I surely will love and cherish my partner and we all know that children are raised to the world, so it's not about "the one who will take care of me". A couple can lose the partner and they will call you widow/widower, a child without parents is an orphan, but there is no name to address to a parent whose child died, their love is eternal and that may be the cruelest fate. I really think that having a child comes with a feeling that is far beyond from pondering who is your priority in life. Of course, I can only think like this because I'm a precious daughter to my mom and dad who always gave me the world and even though we disagree and have small fights sometimes, we all love each other (and my lil brother) and to me the 3 of them are the most important people in the world. I'm not saying that I ignore their needs and I am definitely not saying that if my husband or my kids was drowning that I would save my hubby over my kids. No. But if you are constantly putting your kids over your husband what would become of your marriage?! In 18-20 year once you guys buffers (kids) are off to college or starting their own families what about your marriage that you neglected!? After you spent 20 yrs prioritizing your kids over your relationship with your spouse?! That's why you hear about so many middle age couples divorcing because, they have nothing in common anymore with their spouse after the children are gone. Yes, that is correct they "shouldn't" be compared. Honestly it will be situational on whether it would be best to choose wife over children or vise-versa. Though most mother's choose their children almost always, its a different thing for the father. at least from my own talks with married couple of different ages.

Parent/children relationships vary which is why it obv wouldn't have unanimous agreement. But personally in a normal situation, I believe parents have a responsibility and obligation to their children to prioritize them over the spouse, but it's hard to say what specific situation would warrant one decision or the other.

Tran Phuong Anh i think it's maybe because as you get older you'll realize it's your spouse the one you will spend the rest of your life with, children will make their own family, but your spouse will be always by your side until death. Ask your dad again, after all his child marry off 😂

i dont have a kid yet, but for me kids will always come before wife or my girlfriend because they are dependent on me. my wife or girlfriend can take care of herself but my kids cant. Also, kids are made from you, there's a completely different bond there.

its not wrong to put your children first. if you have kids, your kids should be your #1 priority no matter what. if you cant put your kids first, then dont have kids simple.
