I feel bad for people who think they need 20+ megapixels to look at their pictures on the computer. Digital photographs were meant to be printed. If that's not the case, 3.1 megapixels is perfect for web use. What's important is the glass.

Thanks for the memories! My parents had this camera in 2003. I used to always switch the camera on with the lens cap on, and watch it fly off every time. It would always get my dad angry. Anyway, it didnt cause any issues with the camera. It was eventually replaced by a Canon 700D.

FYI 2 gigabyte SD cards certainly didn't exist at any point in 2002. 2 GB was a FAT 16 limit for older cameras. I have an old digital camera that I'd bought in 2004, and that camera cannot handle SD cards larger than 2 GB. They had just upped the limit to 2 GB at that time. My 2002 digital camera was supplied with an 8 MB type 1 CF card, but it takes a 1 GB type 1 CF card. However, that camera cannot format more than about 400 MB, because there was nothing that big in those days.

Can't remember exactly what the price was but this was my first digital camera, purchased on clearance at a Target outside Atlanta. I just found it in my pile of old electronic stuff. Still works. I put it in my camera bag and intend to use it again just for fun. It always took acceptable quality pics.

So far alkaline AAs have lasted pretty well in it. I just got a Kodak 4 x AA NiMH batteries & charger kit for $4.99 on eBay (leftover "new" stock, and cheaper than the Chinese knockoffs!) which will be the ideal way to power it.

In 2003, our Canon camera came with a 16MB SD card, but my dad quickly knew we had to get something bigger, so he ordered a 256MB card. Some years later, we got a 512MB card for it.

I have a slightly upgraded model of this camera called the Kodak DX4350, I got it some time in 2004 I believe (but, it coulda been 2005.) It's a great camera & I'm still using it in 2020 with no problems whatsoever. I still love it & the image quality is perfect.

That camera has a very aggressive AGC for the audio recording, unless you applied some post production limiting to the audio. A relic from the days when consumer electronics were still using easy to find batteries that could be replaced, well, it was coming to the end of that era. I wonder how the camera presents itself to the computer and whether you'd need any special drivers to use it in USB mode, or whether it adopts whatever standards digital cameras use.

The video quality leaves much to be desired (compared to your main camcorder, anyway), but the photo quality is fantastic! I like that it takes AA batteries too. The focus and zoom can't be adjusted on my camera while recording a video either, that's kind of a pain sometimes. It's great how your thrift store put the price tag on the strap! Mine just slaps a sticker on everything, and they're hard to remove. Also, you should really do a demo of that 8 track to cassette adapter!

I still use my circa 2001 3.1MP Olympus Camedia C3040Z 32MB SmartMedia card. I paid $700 for it, so I got my money's worth! Unlike the Kodak, the controls are more traditional (shutter speed, aperture, macro, etc.) It does support zoom in video mode by digitally zooming (yuck), and saves in Quicktime format. It was one of the first cameras to support writing JPEG EXIF metadata and USB storage class when directly connected to a computer.

128MB SD Cards Aren't The Lowest. I Still Have My Very First SD Card I Would Say About 2003 And It's a 64MB SD Card, My Mema at the Time Her PDA Had 16MB and I've Seen Them as Low as 8MB. Wow Reminds of Some of the First MP3 Player 16MB or 32MB Some as Low as 8MB Kinda Hard to Think By Today Standards That We Had Thinks With That Low of Storage. Peace.
