Some great reminders for beginners in film photography. When I was a tech support rep 30 years ago (already!), my philosophy was that everyone is a beginner for a while, some a little bit longer than others, and the rest could use some polite reminders on the basics. I've been shooting with my H35 and having great fun with it, now I need to get one of these.

This! I still like going back to basics often, you learn something new every time you do!

I grew using film, saw it give way to digital, and now see it coming back into style. Seeing how patient and remedial this presentation is - well, it's like hearing an explanation of what a horse is to someone who's never heard of them. ("The horse will not eat you. Those things where you and I have feet - on a horse, they're called 'hooves.' You feed a horse grain products. Do not feed it gasoline. It is not an automobile - if you feed it gasoline, it will become sick and die.") Best wishes from Vermont ❄️

I grew up with digital, and have only seen stuff like polaroids and cassette tapes in films, im planning to get this camera, as i want to ve able to get that nice vintage look. And i want a physical photo album, cherished memories do nit belong on a sim card, in my opinion.

Thank you for this video, truly helpful! I'm really REALLY new to this, so let me ask a stupid question. Can I use another brand of roll film for M35? Like the fujicolor or even the black and white? And does it work the same like this kodak roll film?

You can use any brand of 35mm (200 or 400 iso) film. - Mike

Even though 200 & 400 ISO are recommended, could I possibly use 800 for lower light environments?

My shutter will no longer press, but the counter shows I’ve only taken 15 photos (out of a 36 film), what can I do to troubleshoot? Shall I rewind it and take the 15 photos I’ve got, rather than risk exposing the remaining? Or is there another way to unjam it?

Something changes in the lens when the flash slider is moved. It looks to me like the aperture widens from f/10 to maybe f/4. Could you confirm?
@DavidSelesi25 күн бұрын
Yes, I took mine apart because I couldn't figure out why half of my photos were screwed. Turns out the flash button also switches the aperture, and if the switch is the middle for some reason like mine accidentally was, you get a nice half moon shaped corner of a photo 😂

Hey Mike, thank you for such an informative video! I have a question tho. The film was loaded properly, and everything was fine, I already took about 7 shots, but now I cannot take pictures anymore, the number of shots is not changing and I can turn the advancing thing forever. nothing is changing... I think the film got detached from the mechanism inside.... do you have any advice for me?
@FilmPhotographyProject7 ай бұрын
Yes, Purchase a film changing bag or use a room in your home that is light tight (black, no light at all). Remove the film and inspect the camera. (When you remove the film, wind it back in its canister with just the tongue sticking out) Do the shutter test as shown in the video. Re-load the film and start over. If you want to preserve your first 7 shots, fire those with you palm covering the lens. It's not uncommon that the counter breaks in these camera, which stinks, but will still allow you to shoot the roll. Hope this helps. - Mike

Mine is working fine most of the time but some photos come out only having exposed a crescent shape on the lower left corner, the rest is black. I guess the shutter is getting stuck but I can't figure out the reason.
@DavidSelesi25 күн бұрын
OK, I figured it out, it's stupid but if anybody else has this issue, here it goes: The flash on/off button also toggles between two different apertures (its a piece of plastic with a small and an even smaller hole next to each other). If the switch is somewhere between the two end position the opening will be partially or completely closed.

I loaded my film wrong and wasn't pulled as taught as it needed to be. Now the camera isn't making that clicking noise when I turn the advance. It still seems to take a photo and advance but it's not making the noise. Does that mean its broken or do some cameras simply not make the noise?

I loaded and finished my first roll. I had to take two shoots to pass from to number. After developed the roll, i found out that some pics I thought I took didnt appear in the roll. Also half of the roll was empty. What could have happened?
@MarcoRoepers Жыл бұрын
Loading this camera is not easy. One of the most difficult cameras in this respect I have seen..
@FilmPhotographyProject Жыл бұрын
Agree. A camera for beginners with the hardest possible loading!! lol.

What are the 2 dots in between the numbers in the film count window ?
@DavidSelesi27 күн бұрын
If I'm not wrong it's just the missing numbers. It goes 1 . . 4 or something like that

Hello, Mike! I am just confused really if I will keep on rolling the rolling button after each shot? or it should stay as it is after a shot?
@amiavirgo9 ай бұрын
and how will I know if it advances? I wasted alot of my films cause I keep on rolling it😭
@FilmPhotographyProject9 ай бұрын
If you advance and it just keeps advancing - that means your film is not properly loaded.

if my camera is jam what should i do😢
@FilmPhotographyProject5 ай бұрын
Go into a room with no windows, stuff a towel under the door to create a DARK ROOM (no light at all). Remove the film from your camera, roll it back up - leaving out just the tab. Now, start over. Your film was probably loaded incorrectly.

Yes. Any 35mm film that is 200 or 400 iso.

I snagged a super-duper cheap 2nd-hand Kodak M38 -- what's the difference between it and the M35? And don't say '3'!!! 🙃🙃🙃

Ha ha ha ha digital kids don't know how how film cameras work but it does seem like some of the problems are from the camera design as the film counter is way to small it needs to be 3 or 4 times Larger for easy reading Kodak had Made cheap plastic easy to use cameras for decades it seems that they may of forgotten some of the basics on what makes a very good cheap plastic camera
