KODAMO MASK1 Demo & Review

Superb demo from a keyboard legend. I have really enjoyed the MASK1 over the last month or so (I helped edit the manual) and I genuinely feel this synth is way deeper than many people give it credit for and, as such, will become a bit of a cult legend over time. Kudos to Stephane and his team, and to you for such a great demo, as always 🙂

It sure is tempting. The UI looks straightforward enough. What do you think? Not really knob-per-function, but it looks fairly easy to dive into. You are one lucky person. Do you think the silk screened graphics will hold up to the test of time and use?

@@thefool2007 The UI is surprisingly intuitive. Only a few options “underneath” each button. Stephane designed it to be rapid and rewarding. The silk screening is as good as anything else I’ve used. My EssenceFM still looks like new. I think this synth will surprise a lot of naysayers 😉

This will be sick with my Waldorf M. The Mask1 sounds like a sharper M without the 8 bit muck. Should layer nicely.

Great demo as always! This was a fun project to work on, the articulation modes are very nice and I think the filters sound especially good.

Excellent demo sir. This is a remarkably fresh synth that does something that other synths do not. I enjoy the refreshingly unconventional sounds that it makes. They sound familiar but a closer listen reveals that they are quite different. KODAMO has something special with this technology. I wonder what they will cost. I see that early production units were shipped out to reviewers. Thanks for a quality demonstration.

Just looked it up. They will be around $2k on Thomann. Totally agree this is something novel that can sound very familiar... but then not. Renaissance of "truly" digital synthesis?

ググってみたら価格は2000ドルぐらい？日本では、いくらになるか不明だけども。bitmask synthesisというのが具体的にどういう発音方式なのかわからんけども（簡単にコピーされないように、わざと手抜きの説明しかしてないのかな？）、PPGとかWaldorfのウェーブテーブル方式に近い音が出しやすいんだろうね。オシレータが２つにノイズが１つ、それぞれにVCA（デジタルシンセだから不正確な表現だけど）がついて、その後にフィルターがついている（HPF,BPF,LPF,ノッチフィルタの４パターン)、で最後尾にエフェクターがついている。とりあえず、わかったのは、そんなとこ。

Except exist in phsyical space, played outside the DAW, etc. Also, while there may be some VSTs that can do similar operations, I haven't seen one that does exactly what this synth does.

ハードシンセである必要性を感じなかったです。 ライブにMIDIキーとPCとインターフェースを持ち込むよりは楽かも。。ってぐらいの感想。 なら他のシンセ使うよねって思いました。
