This is my first impressions of the new Cabin tent from Kodiak Canvas. I own the Flexbow and Lodge tent models and have several videos detailing my experiences with the Lodge tent over the last few hunting seasons. When I set up hunting camp I live in my tent for weeks, this year I spent 2 months living in my tent so I'd like to believe I have more experience than most when it comes to this tent. For some reason the last 4 minutes or so was clipped from the video and put into a different file so this will be a 2 part video.

PS Carbon monoxide IS heavier than air and would accumulate at the bottom of the tent. Smoke detector goes on the pole, Battery operated CO2 detector, near the floor. Sorry, I have nothing else to do but comment on your awesome videos.

PS you won't kill yourself using a propane heater with auto shut-off or a wood stove, but you STILL NEED A CARBON MONIXDE DETECTOR to keep your kids safe. Sorry, I've been trying to hunt down your videos all a.m., finally realized I found you and felt a need to be obnoxious (you asked us not to mention this) like any decent, cranky old lady has a right to. Love your videos. Not understanding why you don't have more subscribers. You've helped me out a lot with each one of these. Thanks for that.

I bought the 6133 with the wall enclosure in the awning. Took about 5 months for me to get it after purchase because of the supply chain issue. I'm happy I got it but after looking at this lodge tent, a family of 6 would be much more comfortable with that one. We definitely were cozy, warm(with buddy heater), and dry for the 5 days we stayed in our tent, but it was still slightly cramped in there. I have bunk cots for the kids, and XL bunk cots for my wife and I. That sure helped a ton to save space.

I've got a new video to put up tomorrow that shows my camp actually set up. There's a lot more room with the straight walls and the extra 36 sqft.

i have the older tent like yours for about 8 years... it has held up realy good... the only problem is the snow has flatened it during late hunts... i am hoping when i get this one it will hold up to the snow... maybe i will tarp it like you say so it runs off.... good job with the video

The tarp really does help, especially with the older model.

Wow! I think a lot of it has to do with the port of Los Angeles being backed up. Ships have been waiting at anchorage for weeks and months to get offloaded.

nice video!!! i'm trying to find a comparison between the alaknak 12x12 and the kodiak lodge 12x12....... what are your thoughts on this?
@DIYoming
@DIYoming 3 жыл бұрын
I do have experience in this. If you'll find an Alaknak owner who will overlook the waste of money and be honest they'll tell you of the terrible condensation problem on the inside of the tent. It's like this because it is made of a synthetic fiber (nylon or nylon like). Definitely don't think about using a propane heater because it gives off a lot of humidity. Even using a wood stove doesn't stop the condensation on the inside of the tent. I just watched a video where the guy does a lot of overwinter camping in an Alaknak style tent and he's chasing rivelets of condensation as the morning sun is melting the ice buildup from the previous night on the INSIDE of the tent. He heated with his wood stove all night. He seems ok with having to do this but that's not for me. I prefer the breathability of my cotton canvas tent and not being woke up by the rain falling inside my tent. Like I said I do have first hand experience with this. A friend of mine joined my camp a few years back. He brought his brand new Alaknak and used it. He experienced everything I mentioned above and sold it before the following hunting season.

Yeah I think I mentioned in the video mine was late too. I think between the 'rona, bigger than expected demand as well as holiday shipping delays might have muffed things up.

We've both had zipper problems. Check out the video titled KODIAK FAIL.

Yeah I saw the video. Mine lasted a long time considering the use I put it through. I will replace the zipper and not be mad about it. Zippers wear out all of the time, just a fact of life. I will try to get the zipper replaced with a brass one. Wish the door zippers Kodiak uses were the same ones used to attach the zip-on awnings on these new model of tents. It's super heavy-duty.

I dunno, made in China means it has the stamp of approval to fail in a year. If your spending over a grand for a tent the zippers going out after one season is a huge deal. I Really like the sewn in floor but if you can't close the door then what's the point? You will always struggle to keep warm in winter. Really not sure about that, zipper failures makes or breaks a tent, just as much as poor stitching and material rip.
@DIYoming
@DIYoming 3 жыл бұрын
The zipper failure on my tent's main door happened after 3 years of extremely heavy use in a very dusty environment. Like I said in the video that zipper had probably been zipped and unzipped well over a thousand times or more. Don't get me wrong definitely a bummer but I'll get another installed, probably a brass one that will be better suited to the dusty environment of where I live. Make your own conclusions and buy it or don't. I'm just a guy trying to give honest opinions and experiences that I have had with my tent.

@@DIYoming thanks. That's exactly the review that I need. People that only talk about the positives are trying to sell you something without full disclosure. What that does is give you buyers remorse because you didn't expect something and then say to yourself, "why didn't anyone talk about this??! This is something I wish I had known before buying." At least with knowing all the faults you know what you are getting and then you are not disappointed when failures do happen. Really trying to decide between this and Davis tent. I really don't want mice running around where I sleep, but I also don't want ripping stitches and broken zippers. Its a tough call. Do you have any other gripes about any weaknesses with this tent? Would you think youcould fix a bent pole with supplies at a hardware store?

@@megrim8292 can't say much in regards to this model of tent. All of my long term experience is with my other cabin tent. I have no other complaints/gripes about my tent. Still think it's been well worth the money. Even looking at maybe having to eventually have the expense of replacing the zipper in my new tent it's still well below the price of a similarily equipped wall tent from Davis, Montana or any other manufacturer. Bent poles? Never had to deal with that. I guess if they aren't bent too badly two people and a tree, or one person and a forked tree could do a reasonable job of straightening out a pole. If it bent to the point where the metal creased and buckled I would call that a trashed pole and not fixable.
