Kodungallur Bharani 2023 festival is conducted at the famous Sri Lokambika / Sri Kurumba Bhagavathy Temple in Kodungalloor at Thrissur Kerala . The famous bharani pattu thanaro thannaro with the intense ritual kavu theendal and velichappadu thullal are making this a major Hindu temple festival in Kerala . Kodungallur Bhagavathy Temple is often accredited as the original form of Goddess Kali which represents Devi in her fierce form. In the Malayalam month of Meenam devotees come to the land of Goddess Kodungallooramma , where the yearly Meena Bharani festival is the center of attraction. The deity Kodungallur Amma is the representation of goddess Bhadrakali, a form of Mahakali , Durga or Aadi Parashakthi who is believed to protect her devotees from disasters. Kozhikkallu moodal is the starting ritual where devotees dedicate cocks over red clothes. Kavutheendal or Kavu Theendal in Kodungalloor Bharani festival is a key ritual where all devotees sing and dance to Kodungallur Amma devotional songs called bharani pattu . Vellichapads or Komaram dresses like goddess and waving sword as part of the ceremony . Both male and females perforom the velichappadu thullal or komaram thullal , a frenzied dance around this Hindu temple singing bharanippattu .
