Koen van Elderen Operator Light & Laser | D-Block & S-te-Fan, Sub Zero Project | Behind the Light 01

Koen van Elderen is a lighting designer, programmer and operator from the Netherlands, known for his work at AMF, Untold in Romania or Intents Festival and touring with artists Nicky Romero or Steve Angello.
In Episode #1, I talked to Koen about his career, his philosophy and his advice for new faces in this industry.
In the last 7 years, he became one of the top-players in the industry. Koen also operates all of his shows. “Not everyone wants to be an operator!”, he tells me, referring to long hours and working at night.
Our conversation took place before the beginning of “Madness Resurrection” by Musical Madness at ArenaNow in Cologne. ArenaNow was founded in 2020 due to the pandemic - as an approved solution - they provide a safe environment for over 2.500 people to enjoy music, comedy and more.
For this event, Koen was the 1st Operator controlling Lights and Lasers for D-Block & S-te-Fan, Sub Zero Project, Phuture Noize and Aftershock.

It's important because Light is a form of Art that is experienced in the moment and simply cannot be sold as a copy, for people to enjoy it over and over again. That means that generally people love the Show but never heard of the people that make it.
CUE - What is the goal and how can CUEpower help make a positive impact to those affected?
01 The goal is to show how much work, determination and creativity goes into the shows.
02 Position the people behind light as artists next to the musical artists to leverage their positions through a public visibility to increase the value of their work.
03 Have their work recognised and inspire others to become a lighting designer, programmer or operator. Present the Jobs and make them more attractive to new people.
