It was a fine parade and lots of fun to watch until we got to the goose-stepping. I know it is traditional but many of us from outside of Germany view it as offensive

It is not the "Goosestep", It is the Paradeshritt, as the musicians and marchers pass the saluting base. It is not offensive, it is a German drill step that has been is use for over 400 years. Research before jumping to your pre determined "offence".

Chinese military parades have goosestep marches as well as some other nations. But glad you enjoyed the festival...
