The use of indigenous African instrumentation is worth commending. The storyline is relatable as it depicts the ubiquitous love of African mothers in accommodating the stubbornness of their children. Our mothers knew that in spite of our childhood waywardness we would turn out good. And yes, we turned out good. Comment made on 10th May, 2024.

@frederickarthur97466 ай бұрын
Hi Sam,.can you provide the translation of the Ahanta in fante or English. Kofi has made Ahanta very very popular.
@kojobrace996 ай бұрын
@@frederickarthur9746 absolutely bro. One of us who is a scholar in the AHANTA language has done that and I’m reposting here for you and others. 𝗗𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔𝗨𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗘 𝗔𝗠𝗔 𝗦𝗢𝗡𝗚 𝗢𝗡 𝗞𝗢𝗙𝗜 𝗢𝗢 𝗞𝗢𝗙𝗜 𝗘𝗣 𝗕𝗬 𝗞𝗢𝗙𝗜 𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗔𝗧𝗔 Background of the story In a typical Ahanta community, the main cuisine of the people is fomfom(ninyia) kenkey. The kenkey comes in different varieties. We have ninyia azanɩ (red corn fomfom), avɔdɔlɔ (white corn fomfom ), ninyia apuko etc. Kofi tries to bring into memory what the mother (Auntie Ama) has been counseling him on. That is to be a child of good behavior. Note that Kofi is the last born of Auntie Ama. Therefore she counsels him to take good care of himself and work hard so that after her demise his life won't be that of a misery. The mother assures Kofi that since he is her last born she will leave behind a pot of Gold (ozukua pulo) which will be looked after by her successor(Agyialɛvʋlɔ). This time around the mother is aware that the likelihood that the successor will spend(squander) everything in the pot of Gold is high and for that matter he should work hard so he can fend for himself in the unlikely event that she passes on. When that unlikely event happens , she would be in her casket wailing. (Note 🗒 This attitude of not using what is meant for orphans but for personal gain is typical of Africans) Back to the song Now the successor is in charge. She prepares meals(Ninyia - kenkey) for the whole children in the house. When she is preparing for her own children in the house, she does it nicely. Here, she does it in different flavors. Looking so appetizing. So Kofi says in Ahanta his mother's dialect that, “Bɛtɩ bɛ ninyia yɩ dɩya bɛtɩ yɩ kalakala).Meaning when she is preparing her children's kenkey (fomfom) she does it in different varieties. So the kalakala here is different types of kenkey (fomfom plus tasty stew) that is prepared for the successors children in the house. But when she is preparing that of the orphans she does it very lose. In other words, she doesn't do it richly as she does for her own children . Hence Kofi says, “Bɛtɩ agyankammɔ(aɣinsa) bɛ dɩyɛ yɩ dɩya a mɛyɩ bɛyɛ yɩ wodwolowodwolo. Meaning when she is preparing that of the orphans, she does it very lose (very lean)and put it in the bowl. NOTE, another word wodwolowodwolo is kambanwʋʋ (very lean) when you see it you won't even have the appetite to eat. Earlier on the mother said she would leave behind a pot of Gold to be used to buy things for Kofi. In other words, to use that money to take care of Kofi - i. e to purchase things for him but the successor will spend that money. So he (Kofi) tries to recall what the mother told him hence, he says the mother's words in the Ahanta dialect that, “Mɩkɛva ozukua pulo mɩkɛva mɩkɛma enii mɔɔ ilili m'agyialɛ kɛ ɩva ɩdɔ debe ɩma wʋ, ɩkɛva ozukua yɩ ikeli .” Meaning I'll give the pot of Gold to the successor to buy something for you but the successor will spend (squander) it. In other words, she would give the successor a pot of Gold 🥇 to purchase something for him (Kofi) but she (the successor) will spend (squander) the money. I hope you remember what Nelson Mandela once said, “If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart”. Kofi was able to recollect those words spoken to him by his mother. Here Kofi becomes so emotional remembering the exact words of her mother. As this happens, the mother has no other option than to cry in her casket. Again Kofi puts it in Ahanta his mother's dialect saying, “Mɩzamɩ Ama ɛgyɩkɩɩ mɩkɛla m'alaka yɩ nu a dinyii”-Me, Ama junior /little will be in my casket being very quiet. In summary Kofi tries to tell us that Whenever one dies and leaves behind money which under normal circumstances must be used to take care of the children left behind the successors rather use that money to sponsor their children. They (successors) spend that money lavishly on their children and leave the orphans to suffer. Folks this is the breakdown of Auntie Ama in KOFI OO KOFI EP by our very own Kofi Kinaata YOURS TRULY Benyia Kofi Kyei #ProjectAhanta #Ourlanguageouridentity #MyAhanta
