From Tom in Springfield, Virginia (USA) -- When I first started studying Russian, I used a chart showing the different endings. It was like trying to swallow an elephant! I then decided to concentrate on the few accusative endings -- animate and inanimate -- focusing on their GENERAL SOUNDS rather than trying to distinguish between the hard and soft spellings. I let my ear guide me first, in other words. After doing this, I then learned the intricacies of spelling and pronunciation, which are quite difficult for an English speaker. I now plan to move on to prepositional, dative, instrumental, and genitive cases using this same method. (The genitive plural appears to be the most challenging.) Finally, I will work on the exceptions -- e.g., children, friends, and members of one's family. I guess these are irregular because they are used the most and therefore have the greatest variation, a common factor in all foreign languages I have studied. I do hope this suggestion will help those studying Russian "eat the elephant" (bear?) one bite at a time! Thank you, Maria, for your hard work in preparing this excellent series. I am using several platforms to teach myself Russian, but yours is definitely the best blend of grammar and entertaining dialogue. You also speak quite clearly, with distinct phrasing, which really helps me improve my comprehension, as does adjusting playback speed on KZbin. I look forward to exploring other portions of your website as I improve. My ultimate goal is to understand news broadcasts, President Putin's speeches, and TED talks in Russian. I may even try to communicate with you in Russian next time, but I still have a long way to go. I can at least now understand basic writing and speech, but I find that expressing myself is far more difficult than I had anticipated.

Здравствуйте Мария. Я из Индонезии. Сейчас учусь Винительный падеж. Но я чуть-чуть перепутал использовать "чего" или "что" на вопрос про животное, на глаголе "Видеть". Например : Слон.. Как правильно : ЧТО ты видешь ? - я вижу слона Или.. ЧЕГО ты видешь? Я вижу слона.. - Спасибо если можно мне объяснить об этом 🙏 Джанта Имули, Индонезии.

Здравствуйте! Для нас животные - как люди, они живые, поэтому мы используем вопросы «кто?кого? и тд с животными. Кто это? это слон. Кого ты видишь? Слона.

Здравствуйте. Вот мои ответы : 1)-а)-Антон звонит Анне и приглашает её на свидание. Б)-Он покупает Анне букет цветов. В)-Продавщица помогает Антону выбрать красивый букет. Г)-Антон ждёт Анну. Где она? 2)-а)-Сегодня утром я видел друзей. Б)-Это мои друзья. В)-Я люблю друзей. Г)-У меня много друзей. Д)-Я часто звоню друзьям.
