@@Nerwrax15 yeah. They tried to fix it in alliance by releasing old characters with better stats which actually worked well with the show since so many of the characters actually did come back. But it wasn't enough and alliance and even exial before that was so scarce that no one cared at that point.

As someone who played a lot of the old Score DBZ game random starters were the biggest hurdle to get new players to try the game. It was hard to tell people who just wanted to play Vegeta that they had to pickup starters and hope to get that one. I know the idea was "hey we can sell more starters if people buy one and don't get the one they want" when in reality a lot of potential new players just didn't bother.
@akl2k7
@akl2k7 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, DBZ is just begging for Goku and Vegeta starter decks (mirroring Yugi and Kaiba decks). Random starters just take away from that.
@amodsr
@amodsr 3 жыл бұрын
@@akl2k7 Agreed. Pretty sure that the starter decks when Panini remade the game followed the same exact idea of random stuff. Thankfully they gave a mastery card in there with it as well which was based on a specific inserted character. Like frieza got blue mastery when I opened it at an event for when the game came out. I can attest that if you really liked the game you would spend large amounts of money on the game for starter deck characters because that's what I did on the world games saga to get vegeta when it came out. I bought like 6+ and didnt get him when my buddy bought like 1 and got him. We thankfully traded dudes.

@amodsr
@amodsr 3 жыл бұрын
@@Doc4LC it is what it is you know? I get why from a starter deck idea of trying to not just make sure you get more money but it also in general keeps people from just buying out a whole character and scalping it. If say Goku was the top character is set 1 and some ass clown came in and bought out just Goku he could go into the secondary market and just perpetuate a horrible cycle. At least with the random it prevents that.

Do you mean something similar to how You-Gi-Oh recently involved, with Link Summoning and more involved column interactions? Like twice as tall as the guy wielding it but also as thick. It's even cooler than that because he can just make axes and if he needs a new one which is bigger he makes that instead.

It seems like "objectively better cards" is one of those issues that a lot of games get wrong, even the big ones. Remember when I was getting into Magic, and got Mons's Goblin Raiders and Mogg Fanatic. These two cards co-existed, yet Mogg Fanatic is just flat out better. Same cost (one red), same power level (1/1), same creature type (goblin), yet the fanatic came with an upside, while the Goblin Raiders were just a vanilla 1/1.

I own some Yu Yu Hakusho cards but only from boosters packs so I never did play the actual card game. I had no idea _how_ to play the game until this video. Bleach was another decently fun game I played only a handful of times and only with my own decks with friends. I had a Chad deck and an Ichigo deck and enough cards for people to make three to four decks of their choice with various characters. Never played the Inuyasha one. I _love_ me my Magical Christmas Land F.T.K. Magic decks. I also love S.T.K. decks, which are a bit more viable in some ways and less viable in others, after all your opponent now has resources on the field! But I really enjoy long game stall decks that win off of some janky combo, like producing infinite mana of all five colors, cracking a Door and then coping the effect eight billion times. 4:33 Truck-kun sends people to other worlds. Car-chan just straight up murders folks.

So I actually played a ton of this game for a year, the playgroup I was playing Magic with basically fully switched over to YYH for a year before bailing... One of the biggest issues, apart from power creep, was quality control. The 3rd Expansion, Gateway, had a production error were some percentage of boxes (between 10-25%) had ZERO RARE CARDS in the boosters! This isn't as bad as it sounds- packs had 2 rares in them, so Rares were closer to Uncommons in other games, and these boxes still had the higher rarity cards in them like SR, UR, etc, but imagine getting 7 packs for $20 and getting no Rares! They also, with the second set, started including tip cards that had the team powers on them, and later doing foil versions of those as inserts in later packs, so you could have your team emblem with an explanation of what the team ability was. To answer the question about techniques and temporary power boosts, there was an event card in the base set at Rare called "Overwhelming Kill" that allowed you to do 4 points of damage (killing a character) if you managed to get 4x their defense, and as the first to 3 kills won the match, and the fact that you drew 2 cards a turn, there were reasons to over-commit to temporary boosts. Also, while this game did end up with a banned and limited list (mostly full of cards from the last 2 sets which were absurdly broken), one of the ways the game combated strictly better was to put limits on cards in their rule text. You show Kitty Love, a 4 energy Event that draws 2 cards. In the same set, at the highest Rarity, there was Burst of Power, a 2 energy event that draws 3 cards, but you are limited to 1 per deck. So it would make sense to run both cards in your deck, as you could max out Kitty love at 3, but only run a single Burst of Power. Cards could also tell you that you could only use them X number of times per game- the extra turn card was both limited to 1 per deck, and even if you got it back somehow, could only be used once per game The nice thing about the system where you have to discard cards every turn to attack was that it meant you could run a lot of situational cards in your deck, and just use them as discard fodder. An item like the Really Big Axe, but Bui has already been retired? You can just discard it for your attacks. The Power creep from set to set was ridiculous- comparing the "bad" common character cards to the high rarity versions of the characters from the base set was incredibly 1-sided by the 2nd expansion, and the game also ran into an issue where it was having to use characters/art from arcs of the show that weren't legally available outside of Japan by either Manga/DVD/TV Airings due to the limited amount of content that was in the show and the slow release pace of the show, and that is where I and my friend group left the game, but at it's heart, this was a really cool game

The YYH TCG starter decks being random were good for the Sealed Deck New Set Release Tournaments. You'd get a starter deck, and 5-6 packs from the new set for $30, build a deck with what you got, and try to win new set packs, top prize was always a Full box of the new set. Thanks for the analysis. Loved this game, despite the power creep, fell in love with the best of 5 system. the FTK deck was ridiculous , but the game did have 2 or 3 alternate win conditions after a few sets. And starting in the 2nd set, the packs would come with a filler card either promoting a card scanner, or individual team bonus reference cards, and a very rare Spirit tracker card.

Ironically set 1 was super balanced from what I remember. The unbalance came from the sets having power creep in a way that literally made most previous set cards semi worthless. The numbers in general just kept getting larger and decks became really fast. Ditching cards from your hand was actually a normal ability for a team bonus to pump extra power while there was the ability to damage enemies even if you didn't reach the number by discarding 2 more cards.

You know what is also a weird thing missing from these cards? Flavor text. Anime licensed TCG love flavor text. Though part of it can also sell people who came for the card game to give some context to the actions and maybe spark interest in watching the show. Like, what exactly is happening on Fishing Pole? Is it a technique or tool Kurama is using? Is Kurama being hit by said effect? If so, by whom? I feel like some flavor text would clear it up at least a little.

The team bonuses are in the rule book they give you. Each team is pretty specific in their style of play so it's generally easy to remember the types of powers for the first few sets. Some teams are rarely played so they are harder to say what the effect is.

Certainly wished the analysis of this TCG was a bit more expansive than just the base set. The last three sets contained “King” cards, which aside from the slight absurdity that they came in pieces, some of which were only available through tournaments, it was an interesting ‘Boss Monster’ sort of mechanic, I would have been interested to hear your opinion on. Also Tournament Cards/Packs is another curious topic Id be intrigued to get a take on.

An entire video could be dedicated to the complexity that is the 3rd set, Gateway. 5 different foil types. 3 foil types for the higher rarity cards (Lined, Cloudy, Jagged) and 2 foil types for the lower rarity cards (Single Rainbow, Double Rainbow). Many believe only 4 foil types exist for Gateway but there are indeed 5. The Double Rainbow foil variation of the commons/rares came in 4 per booster box (2 commons, 1 rare, 1 team bonus). It is easily the hardest set in the game to complete for full collection purposes. Promos get even trickier in Gateway as some of the Double Rainbow variations "never publicly released". Currently, one of the promos only has 1 in existence (which I own) while one of the other promos has only 5 in existence (I own 3 of them, used to own the 4th but traded it over a decade ago not realizing how rare it was). I have a guess who owns the 5th but not quite sure. The deal was done privately when it was auctioned in a Facebook group, going against the rules of the group. Anyway, I have a video on my channel from last year I think that goes through the history of the game but it's kind of all over the place and I want to sit down and re-record it at some point.

Inuyasha was unfortunately cancelled because of the sales weren't high enough. The game was not as popular in comparison to DBZ CCG and DBGT TCG. The last events of the game, the West Coast Championships and East Coast Championships of 2007 only attracted 35, and 32 players respectively. :( The cards were more popular toward collectors and fans of the series, and when the series ended, the sales of the product tanked drastically. Tensei was not originally designed to be the way it was. But since it was decided for the game to be cancelled, and they already had designed a bunch of card while also having the second half of the Feudal Voice cards in hand, they just went on to print every thing they had left in one closure set. Inuyasha TCG had plans for a new structure deck that was going to have new reprints of cards. A lot of those cards ended up being printed in Tensei. The Classic subset and the Player's Choice were originally planned to be the promo cards that were included in the decks, similarly to the Band of Seven promo pack that were in the Feudal Warfare decks, while both the Kanna and Tekkei were part of the main decks, hence why they had a different card border. There was also plans for an 11th set, but I don't think more was done about it other than design drafts for cards that could be made for it. As for Bleach, it ended up getting cancelled due to Panini's acquisition of Don Russ Ltd, and since Score Entertainment was not acquired, they ended up being forced to close. Bleach was supposed to have more sets to come, but Score closure caused the game to end prematurely. :(

It was really bad, if it was ever used in tournament play I'd be absolutely shocked. Honestly I respect Kohdok, but he is looking at approximately 20 (or less?) cards from the very first set of the game, of low rarity at that, instead of looking at six expansions worth, with tournament packs as well. I get that the last two (maybe even three or four at this point, I just know the last two expansions are literally worth thousands of dollars a booster box) expansions are impossible to get, but their cards are documented very well. He should have either looked at ALL the cards from the game, or asked people who played the game about it.

@@Th3Treasoner The prices really soared when quarantine happened. Most of the singles prices have gone down (Raizen King sold for like 2000+ during quarantine, but has since dropped to like $600). I think the only cards/product that have continued to go up are sealed product and The Dark One G0 card. Last Dark One's sold at $3000 (twice) and someone bought/traded $2000 plus apparently $3000 in Pokemon PSA graded cards for one of the signature Dark Ones. Most of the other singles have dropped down a bit but I doubt we'll ever see pre-quarantine prices ever again.

I don't disagree with certain cards being just straight up better but a cool thing is the items that are stronger are usually on stronger characters in the anime. The fishing pole is given to a demon who is based off a japanese story and the knife is just a generic killer.
@amodsr

cool second thing is that character who uses the knives has an effect in his attack where he has a boosted attack stat for each combat knife equipped.

What's so bad about including randomised rarity bumps in starter/trial decks? It doesn't change the strength of the deck or anything.
@Kohdok
@Kohdok 3 жыл бұрын
Like I said before, it's to make people want to chase those signature cards and buy starter decks until they do. It's another way to try to lift the purchase cap which Booster Packs do enough of already.
@mychemicalrobert
@mychemicalrobert 3 жыл бұрын
@@Kohdok But nobody needs to, so what's the issue? I imagine some people enjoy having the chance to open something special from them, because opening a starter deck can be quite boring otherwise. I imagine having a random vanity rare card can help add value, and help prevent starter/trial decks collecting dust on local game store shelves. Yeah, booster packs are terrible for consumers, but higher rarity cards being upgrades of lower rarity cards is one of the only saving graces of that model, so I don't see the harm of adding it to an otherwise fixed product.

Hey random question. Why do the names of the characters on the cards have "TM" after them? I see this not only in this game but in the old Dragonball Z TCG and contemporary Harry Potter games.
@supermysterious66
@supermysterious66 3 жыл бұрын
TM stand for trademark, distinctly common-law trademark, where they are asserting that it's a trademark they own, but haven't formally registered it. Now how well TM actually holds up in a court of law is another matter.

There are 3 versions of the stack of cards that come in a starter deck. Some cards were from boosters, some cards were specifically in the starter decks, with some only showing up in 1 of the 3 versions of the big stack of cards you get (note: 4 diff teams were available in the starter deck, but only 3 common pack variations existed)

@@inviso87 strange. Every starter deck I've seen always came with the same exact cards from the extra added stuff.
@inviso87
@inviso87 2 жыл бұрын
@@amodsr They are mostly the same, so you might not have even noticed. It's also unclear if some combinations were more common than others. My database tracks all that and in my experience and watching openings on KZbin confirms there are 3 variations to the stack of sealed cards in the starter decks. The 2nd card in the stack determines the cards inside. The 3 variations are the Gokumonki stack (the one shown here), the Kuroda stack, and the Gatasubal stack. You can determine what cards are inside without even opening the sealed pack by sliding Alley for Eikichi down and seeing the DEF stat of the 2nd card by sliding that 2nd card up. There is enough slack in the sealed deck for this. If the DEF is 4500, the deck is Gatasubal. If the DEF is 4000, the deck is Kuroda. If the DEF is 5000, the deck is Gokumonki.

@@inviso87 that's what you meant. My bad. I thought you meant the 6 cards randomly inserted that were the team and it's 2 variants. Strange that they would do that when in general if they were gonna alter the deck they could have given you a semi playable starter based on your team. No wonder this game died. I love the game but that's just a little too dumb.

@@amodsr All good man! I think they did it to sell more starter decks. If you got nearly everything you needed in 1, there would be no need to buy more. I know 1 of the decks contained Fishing Pole (the other 2 didn't). Same with Baseball Bat. I forget what the 3rd combination contained that set it apart from the others. I guess they tried to keep one "staple" depending on the deck in each separate deck.

IIRC, the Fishing Pole to Really Big Axe comparison is moot, because there's a rare upgrade from the same set that is literally just a +3k. About the only good point to this game was that the characters cards were full image, so they make interesting MTG tokens. Also, I'm fine with what Bushiroad did there. That super shiny signature card is just an alternate art for a regular version of the card in the deck. You aren't being content gated by its existence, it's just a lotto ticket for people who want to bling out their decks. They've actually scaled rarity creep back a lot lately. All the super rare stuff is just cosmetic upgrades; you can literally buy a complete card set for less than what a single Magic deck costs these days.
