I had a goldfish in an aquarium with sandy bottom with some stones and bogwood. It kept destroying all plants. Then I decided to adapt the "safety in numbers" method and add a lot of plants at once. The fish just began gorging on them. The filter kept getting clogged every day, water quality dropped and the fish nearly died. I barely saved in.

Sorry to hear that. Never had that experience in a pond setting.

Great video. I like the mesh raft. I have slider turtles in my Koi Pond. Do you still recommend lining the river rocks? As turtles are so messy it seems like their waste would find new homes at the bottom and it would be harder to maintain the pond.

We still prefer stone as long as you have a skimmer on the pond. That will help it look good and stay clean!

My friend has 3 koi fry in a aquarium and they started attacking a plant all of a sudden. They started to ferociously tug at it and almost ripped it out by the roots. It was hilarious at first but I'm kinda wondering if there’s reason for concern. 😅

We get a lot of leaves in our pond in the spring. If I put river rocks, how do I clean my pond of those leaves?
@dominasagway2 жыл бұрын
We install skimmers on all ponds which helps with collecting debris. If you don’t have a skimmer, a hand net would collect the debris too.

Can you make a video on how you add carnivorous plants to the floating island? I've always had the hardest time with those, and my floating island is always so thin, no matter what i plant in it.

We don’t have much experience with that fish. They don’t survive in our ponds here in New England. Wish I had tricks to share with you but unfortunately I don’t.

I have a question, how do you pretreat pond plants for parasites?
@dominasagway3 жыл бұрын
The most secure way is to quarantine plants in a tank or kiddie pool for a week or two before putting them in the pond. You can treat them w/ potassium permanganate to ensure when it’s time to place them in the pond, the plants will be parasite free. Thanks

Why are my pond plants turning yellow and not growing?
@dominasagway3 жыл бұрын
Water plants like a lot of fertilizer. We use pond tabs in the pots once a month. Any water plant fertilizer would work.

These are floating plants (water Hyacinth and Water Lettuce)
@dominasagway3 жыл бұрын
@@pate1540 That’s a little tougher to solve. Floating plants take the nutrients just from the water. That’s an indication that nutrient loads are very low which is great for the fish but bad for the plants. You may want to try simply feeding your fish a little bit more or adding a couple extra fish.

My water lettuce start turning yellow wen theyre in dark-ish indoor tanks (insufficient light) or wen the goldies and carps eat their roots off. Check if it's either of the above
@dominasagway3 жыл бұрын
@@Masterchathura It’s probably a combination of both. Yellow plants is usually a lack of food but could be the roots being eaten.
