See I just treat with Virkon all the time now and honestly Andy I get loads of red scales but they go within a few days! I know it’s not for everyone but it works and I think the less you stress them by getting them out also helps them recover quickly. And also personally I wouldn’t treat for 1 fluke found on 3 fish 👍🏻 have a great weekend pal 😄
@koidiaries2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, pretty much what ive done in the past TBH, a raised scale or two, plop some virkon in and usually it clears up quickly and youd never know, this seems like something else though, hopefully it sorts itself out ASAP.

@@koidiaries don't worry about taking fish out of the pond to either inspect or treat. The stress they experience through that is temporary and isn't more than just a few moments of anxiety - no actual harm is being done to them. Advising against that is not good practice. Go find Koi Select here on youtube; he takes fish out twice a week to do scrapes to make sure that there's no parasites and if there is; he treats before it becomes a major issue. Just look at how many incredible, healthy, non stressed fish he has

I always spray the area with Bactcide then I use a 1/2" paint brush and brush on Parakill to the area then put the fish back. It works for one or two fish saves a full pond tretment follow up 3 days doing the same.

Don't take up selling pond Windows, you've put me off for life! Asagi has definitely grown. With one live skin fluke I personally would treat but would wait for a time that suits me, i.e end of growth season / end of autumn as you just know they will otherwise expand in numbers and cause a load of grief come next spring.

Water looking great, glad the water tests are back to normal. I wouldn’t treat for one find, just proof your microscope is working 😀. But I’d scrape again in a few days / week just to check. Good luck with the scales, I would just clean and let the fish do it’s thing when you have good water, look forward to hearing what else you’ve used this time round. 🤞

I have clients with koi in ecosystem ponds we've built. No issues with water quality, never have any suspended algae, minimal maintenance, no endless scale scrapes and treatments, just mother nature in balance and gin clear water.

Water looks amazing definite proof that the drum filter is doing its job. Hopefully the shiro will make a full recovery soon. For one fluke I would leave things alone and just keep an eye on the koi. No need to stress the koi out by adding chemicals if you really don't need them. Cheers.

I use a Oxo tile scrubber for the window on my pond, literally takes me a minute to clean at a push, I would say under a minute to be honest! Regarding the raised scales after the swamp water, earlier in the year I removed all the media out my shower (250l crystal bio) and cleaned each bit individually before I added my drum as just had the vortex before it, and the amount of shite that went in the pond was unreal, it was a brown mess for days. Once it started to clear I think I had 3 fish with raised scales. I just used the double dose of virkon to begin then normal dose for a few weeks and soon was back to normal, there was improvements within 2-3 days!
