Best thing you will ever do, we have been using this system since 2004, kitty litter and laterite or flourite red, 9 big baskets in our return pond in our 10000 ltr pond, nitrates went from 300ppm to 60ppm over 6mths, we continued with our normal water changes which b4 the baskets made no difference, you have to give 3 months for the baskets to colonise.

I just changed this and the basket out. I am not abandoning the system but I am going from one big basket down to many smaller ones and will put plants in them, too. I have a video about it coming out soon.

Is BCB very effective in reducing nitrate concentration in water?

After having the BCB basket now for a few months. I would say it’s not very effective and I will do another video about it at the end of the summer season. However it does reduce it a bit because I feed much more this season and the nitrate levels are slightly lower.
