Beautifully done. Kudos for doing your own fabrication too. The Acers give it a wonderful sense of maturity and tranquility.

Thanks very much, 😊 It helped that I had grown some on in large pots, or where i had removed them to build the pond, replanted them for that instant effect.

Forgot to ask, how are you finding the QK 25 drum ? And how are you finding it having the courser mesh of 120 microns instead of the 70 microns all their other drum use, do you find it effects the water quality, ie more fines in the water. And do you find more detritus passing though the drum and getting into the moving bed/ shower filters ? I was thinking of getting one but am worried about the bigger mesh leaving a lot more fines in the water ? Thanks Andy
@DavesKoiPond3 жыл бұрын
@@andrewjones7670 i'm very happy with my water clarity, and i've not noticed an accumulation of detritus in my filter beds, you get a little bit in the corners of the drum it's self, but i've seen that in nearly every drum regardless of micron size. to be honest in most ponds i've seen with 'fines'. it's not sub 120 micron particles, (i can't see a 120 micron particle 😄) it's larger pieces and particles people can easily see. where the fish are constantly grazing on algae on the pond walls and floor and generally making a mess. and /or pond turnover isn't high enough to keep up with filtering most of these particles out.
@andrewjones76703 жыл бұрын
@@DavesKoiPond thank you that’s great, was just a little bit worried about the fines as most other drums have a much smaller micron size . Sounds good 👍

Hi Dave, Great video. Im thinking of getting the qk25 drum but I am unsure how loud the cleaning pump is likely to be as i'm hoping to put it under the decking near the house. is the cleanign pump overly loud when it operates?
@DavesKoiPond Жыл бұрын
Thanks, 👍 There's no getting away from it, the cleaning pumps are noisey. I would probably add some sound adsorbing insulation to the underside of the decking covers to reduce the noise, And mount the pump on a block with some foam insulation underneath to isolate vibration a bit, if it's an issue... 🙂

Hi Dave ! What flow rate are you putting through the bio chamber and the shower ? I presume they are both separate lines split from the drum ?
@DavesKoiPond2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mohsin, I'm putting about 7,000 lph through the K1 micro bio chamber run from a Aqua Forte 20,000 vario, on 2" pressure pipe. And 18,000 lph through the shower run from a Aqua Forte 30,000 vario -s on 3" pressure pipe. And yes both on separate lines from the drum.
@RightToLive32222 жыл бұрын
@@DavesKoiPond that’s a great flow…. I have a similar setup to yours but was struggling with lingering nitrite…. What test kit do you use ? I use a Hanna meter and my nitrite is 0.020 no2-N. I would ideally want it a tad lower. My flow over a 70cm shower is 12,000 litres. What size is your bakki shower…?
@DavesKoiPond2 жыл бұрын
@@RightToLive3222 I just use an API test kit, and not had an issue. is that 0.020 mg/L? if so, not what i would call high. a lot depends on stocking level/feeding/temperature ect.... my shower is a Queni Koi maxi, holding 10 boxes of QK shower media. queni-koi.co.uk/filtration-c36/showers-c40/qk-filtration-qk-maxi-shower-680-00-p6324 my current pond has only been running now for 4 months but the filter media is from my old pond and over 2 years old. so already has a lot of maturity and biological diversity.

hi dave, whats the secret to keeping acers then, I have had a couple in big pots and they just want to die each time. not having much luck with them at all. Thanks
@DavesKoiPond3 жыл бұрын
Ideally they like soil with a ph around 5-6 not as low as ericaceous plants at 4, but will fine from 4-7 Prefering soil high in organic matter like composted leaf and bark chippings. but with good drainage. Most often its sun and wind exposure that exhaust the trees energy reserve, and cause leaf scorching. and once the trees energy is depleted quickly die for no apparent reason. You can feed but with a low strength NPK fertiliser as they dont like strong fertilisers. They also make specific Acer fertilisers. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07N7RDM...7DVRTR2AMCFN43 also when they are young the roots are not very developed and are as slow growing as the rest of the tree. As they prefer semi shade, especially when young as the roots aren't fully developed, they are a shallow rooting tree as well so a good mulch to keep them moist during dry weather helps. given time they get bigger, stronger, with a more extensive root system, and become more resistant to wind and sun.

Sorry, no mate. Takes far too much time for me without CNC tools ect...and the plastic is expensive. It would end up costing more than a commercially made one, with no warranty 😄
