Hi mate , poor old Gary ., but to be fair you said you’ve found no flukes so to say it’s not worked is a little unfair , I would bowl Gary and have a look at his gills , it’s seems you had Gill flukes and as the name says they feed and cause damage to the gills and it can take a while for the koi to recover from any damage , but !! Sometimes the gills can become necrosis and may never recover ☹️☹️

Thanks for that. Yes as you say I didn't find Flukes so did the treatment work? Is there another parasite or are the fish just recovering from the treatment?? Every day is a school day...🤔😉

@@KoiPondLifestyle it’s hard to say mate , they have had a battering from the fluke so it may take a while for them to feel better in them selves , and as to Gary he needs to be checked as he is clearly sulking , check in his gills look for signs of damage and necrosis, dead bits of Gill the gills should be a healthy red colour 👍

Hi Andy, thank you for mentioning me on your channel much appreciated, I am gutted to see you done second dose and not worked, after my first dose I had 2 or 3 flash which are the usual suspects 🤣but around third day I’ve seen none flash but tbh I’m not 💯 impressed, I am gonna do a early 2nd dose treatment due to temperatures being warmer I was also mentioned from other pond keepers to go ahead with early 2nd dose, I’ll be adding Colombo fish protect, if this don’t work mate I think I’m gonna pp a bowl and treat koi for 3 mins and hit them with fluke solve plus(pond) 👍🏻take care

I think you have two options.... 1st leave it alone and do a water change. 2nd run a dose of PP to kill off anything you haven't seen. 3rd (I cant count) go old school and dose your pond with salt.. and yes I know many people will be aghast with that solution. But it has worked for years and years to help the build up of slime coat which helps stop parasites from attaching. Just as an aside my fish have always spat food out. They tend to be lazy eaters and can take up to an hour to eat a portion of food. They fill their mouths and then spit half of it out again. Then go back and eat the bits they spat out.

Hiya, Thanks for that. I have an update out on Friday with progress so far, so let me know what you think? My fish have also been lazy eaters that take their time to find the food, but you know your fish so they seem to be taking just that bit longer, but have never spat food out?🤔. Cheers 👍

Hi it's very interesting reading all the comments I built my pond in 94 ,all fibreglassed ,no window in them days! 4000 gallons (3300) pond 700 filters including vortex , I built "media chambers" filled with brushes ,spring flow and ,clay / spar which no one will probably remember ,central heating pump's and hi blow 40 definey old school but it worked and I still have 5 of my koi which are "originalalls" with my newer ones so must have done something right only ever used to use sterizen p and put in alot of salt if required never had any major problems, I have changed one of my brush chambers to a k1 150l moving bed just hoping it doesn't cause problems!

Hi Andy As you know I had flukes and treated with supaverm which I stupidly over dosed and lost one of my fish and knocked the crap out of the rest could be possible that they are all feed up with the constant different fluke treatments your putting in the pond? I’ve not long finished a 10day salt treatment on the whole pond at 0.60% after the supaverm and all my koi are are eating again and seem to be back to normal 2 days after the salt treatment ended Hope you get it sorted matey

Hi, great watch; very interesting. I’ve been keeping koi for around 10 years now but a couple of months ago I had a similar issue found nothing on the scope and had one of my kohaku’s with pretty much the same symptoms as Gary. Scrape after scrape nothing, spoke to a lot of people in the game and together took the decision to add chloramine T. Within a few days all fish returned to normal and I haven’t had a problem since. Maybe Costia who knows as there really wasn’t anything on the scrapes but the signs were there almost exactly the same as yours. I don’t like to add anything without being sure however if all the signs are there sometimes you just have to go with your head. It worked for me and you might want to consider it.

I’m a new koi keeper and I have been watching your videos for last 8 weeks and I have found your experiences have help me so from me a big thumbs up. As for fluke I have experienced this as have many others koi keepers, my koi dealer was closed when realised i had fluke so I was in a situation where I had to buy a treatment from a larger retailer and I could only get Flukasole and after 24hrs I noticed a big improvement but then after the 4th day they seem to go the other way slightly so I gave a second dose after the 5th day and not the recommended 7 days but since the second dose the fish are happy and eating normally and they seem to be enjoying life that was 3 weeks ago so fingers crossed. Anyway I hope all gets better soon.

Hi Gary, thank you for working through the video even though you seem disappointed. I'm in the US and have been dealing with flukes as well. I have follow one of the recommendations of Dr. Erik Johnson, who is one of the top veterinarians here in the US. He have a suggestion of dosing the pond with 2ppm of PP for 5 consecutive days. It's seem to help put the control over the flukes and my fish now. Let me know if you want to know more or try it. Every pond is different but I just wanted to share what works for me.

Like most Koi keepers I've also got all of this going on. Fish spitting out food, sitting in the corner for days, flashing etc etc. On advice, I bought the £250 microscope to find out what the problem was.... found nothing. After a few days/weeks they all seem to get over it by themselves with no chemicals added at all. One particular fish, my favourite one too, sat in the corner and never ate for about four weeks but even he has managed to beat it and if I'm honest I was resigned to losing him. Hopefully this gives you some hope for yours mate. To put all this into context, I'm relatively new to Koi keeping, about 2yrs in. Keep up the great vids!

I know your pain. I had flukes for over a year and in that time I tried everything on the shelf and under the self to kill them off. Normal strain of flukes fine worked a treat then it was discovered i had a strain of fluke that was resilient to known fluke treatments. Super fluke..... alot bigger than the normal fluke. One thing i did was to submerge all pond equipment nets, bowls etc in the pond for the time I treated for, I noticed you removed the aquarium whilst treating fluke could remain on the glass or frame so again leave in pond and submerge if possible. Another thing i was told to do was with an abrasive sponge brush the top water line up to the copping stones as the fluke had been found in a scrape of a pond wall...... Done all this and still flukes. I then placed the trays of my bakki shower into the pond so they were under water rather than have water passing over......again still had flukes. i got into touch with the manufacturer of fluke solve and ran through the whole story .... a lengthy phone call that was. I was then invited to go onto the trial for fluke solve plus. I left everything running on the pond that would normally be and scrapped 5 koi before and found fluke in numbers. After the treatment I scrapped every koi and no fluke found. I scraped 5 koi every week for a month and still no fluke found. To date I've been fluke free. I've not added any new koi for some 8 months and still fluke free. A method of entry which seems to be common is if frogs or newts can enter ponds they may carry fluke. I like you have a raised pond so it would have to jump some to get in.

In recent years my fish have had gill flukes and 2 lots of fluke solve have sorted it but this year I used 4 lots of fluke solve and it did nothing. I then tried 2 lots of lernex and nothing. I then tried 2 lots of lernex pro and had partial success. I then used 2 more lots of lernex pro but this time instead of just turning off the UV I turned off all the pumps aswell for 36 hours and used an airline with plenty of air and this did the trick. This could be worth doing or maybe using the fluke solve plus. Gill flukes can sometimes be hard to find if they stay in the gills and knowing how your fish react is sometimes the best way to know...flashing against their gills and any damage to the outer gill plate. Stick at it and you will get there.

Check all of your water parameters… clamping and also being still with a raised head is sign of the little fella not feeling well all.. I also believe that he is doing this near where your pond is most oxygenated which could be a cause of the gill flukes damaging the gill Membrane… similar to when we have a chest infection… don’t rush into applying further treatments yet… next phase is to get him out.. sedate him And give him a thorough check over including his gills, are there any obvious signs of scarring etc etc

After months of looking at pond clays I have come to the conclusion they are all the same. Some manufacturers may say thay have this or that in them which makes them better however you will not see this on the label. Nothing is added to the clay and the exact amounts of the compounds in the clay depend only on where it’s found and nature not on the price paid. Montmorillonite clay contains calcium, sodium and aluminium, Bentonite clay potassium, sodium, calcium, silica, quartz, and aluminium. Koi clay can be added to food pellets soaking damp pellets into clay ingesting binds organic pollutants and toxins that are in your koi’s body and enable fish to excrete them more effectively. This can result in increased growth, improved colour, and healthier immune system, and greater energy. Montmorillonite has a 8.3 to 9.1 PH. Bentonite has a 7 to 8 PH. So the choice of clay can help you control some PH.

I believe that the high incidence of fluke in the UK is due to overfeeding in water temperatures below 20 degrees. In Japan, especially at 15 to 17 degrees Celsius, their appetite and activity is so great that it is easy to be misled into feeding too much, and similar problems occur frequently.

It is a sinking feeling watching your prized koi suffering, Don’t be tempted to add treatments though unless you find parasites, Flukes take it out of your koi, It could be a few weeks before they start to pull round and start to eat properly again, Be patient and make sure water is spot on, All parameters are good, Watch the fish for secondary infections as a result of the flukes and Scrape in a weeks time, Good luck !

Hi Andy where to start seen and read the comments it’s a tough one for sure but your fish tell you when they are not right I’ve had a garden pond for over 25 years started with gold fish and normal carp then put koi in and never really had any problems never owned a microscope never done a fish scrape but this year I’ve had terrible trouble with fish flicking rubbing and clamping up. So what do you do just leave and hope it will sort itself out well it won’t as I contacted a local pond company to come and do water checks and scrapes completely let me down gave me a date never came got in touch never got back to me all this took 10 days and in this time my fish were in a right state turning pink not feeding sores all over a right mess. Big decision time bought a microscope did scrape which is stressful to say the least found Costia and Trichodina treated all was good for about a month all started again but only did one treatment so did three treatments as people suggested and hopefully all is good at the moment fingers crossed. Morel of the story is treat sickly fish with what you find and I hope you get it sorted soon.

Gary I feel for you mate, it's definately been the most testing season for me (koi keeping for 6 years) also ... too many issues to mention. Let's give it some time ..the fish have been battered and if it's been gill fluke then their gill would have taken a battering. Some mention soaking the food first so they can chew it easier (that's probably why they eat and spit out and then eat again) for them. If we're struggling then imagine all the new hobbyists coming into the game and those masses of people re-building their ponds (alot of place have sold out of the drum filters). It's not always the instagram world of wow koi that's for certain. Be well mate

If I was you I would finish the treatment after 7 days 40/50 percent water change, flush filters through. monitor for a few days and see of there any improvement because it could be the amount of treatments your using. If no improvement, hit with ntlabs FMG, More than likely now the flukes have gone trich or costia have moved in. I think koi will always have parasites but its about keeping the numbers down. Get yourself a apex practioner, great scopes even for a beginner.

Don't be too concerned yet, your putting a strong chemical into your system . Some fish react different to others ie some will eat and some will sulk. You've also dosed again early which is banging up the chemicals Concentration in your system which in turn and again fish will react in different ways. Just let the chemical run its course and don't be tempted to put/add any other brands or what your using now until its safe to do so. Mixing chemicals or double dosing can have a effect on your fishes organs that could make them sulk or worse die. . The temp/weather's changes this last 4 weeks have also played a part in our fishes behaviour.
