In the early days (about 30 years ago) I used to cover our pond and put house bricks along both sides to try and keep them on. The storms still lifted the covers. Now they have to put up with any ice that may form, and as long as the air is on, it has never been a problem. The pond is now down to 8C, and every time I go near the pond, they are up and still hoping to get fed, which I do sparingly twice a day with All Seasons. The UV has been off for about a month, and I can still see the bottom. I do see the odd bit of slow flashing, not the panicky flashing and fin flicking of an outbreak of fluke. The pump is turned down to 50%, and the drum filter to one 20 seconds clean an hour. How are you enjoying Storm Darragh?😮

Great video... Like the air. Heads up Andy I have. Fish tank heater in one of my bays it comes on at night for 2 hrs. Then back on 4 hrs later. It's been keeping my water temp stable more.? Umm think about it. Possibly running longer if we have snow ona wifi switch also.. Great video..... Have ei won yet lol ha ha ha 😂

re the covers..can you not buy one or two long pieces of decking and then weigh them down with some heavy stones. Thats what I did. You can get rid of the small bits of wood you added from the garden side and have a gap on both sides allowing air in and gas out. I have the same skimmer as you and its off. My UV is inside the filter housing so it has to stay on. The air pump is also 40wt per hr..and whilst it will save a bit of cash I don't want to do any possible damage to the pump by having it going on/off every day. Another great video.

I also saw the video I believe you are referring to Andy, and my local dealer stocks the Pond Detox, which I am going to try in the spring (can’t knock it till you’ve tried it). I’m not adding anything to the water now at these current temperatures and while it seems to be well balanced and maintaining itself.

Why is there no report on the KOI itself? Japanese hobbysts all describe the pre-wintering conditions in such detail about the swimming and dynamic changes. I'd love to hear a report from that perspective from you too.
