Kokkinakis serves, returns and passing shots were on point the whole tournament. I really think he was the most decisive player. Moreover, kyrgios' serve makes thinks lot easier too.

If Nick switched focus entirely from singles to doubles, and won it than yeah I could possibly agree with your argument. That is not the case. Nick is still focused on the singles draw - he lost to finalist Medvedev. Plenty of men’s singles players join doubles as wildcards for a bit of fun, and get knocked out in the second round. They’re the first wildcards to win the AO men’s doubles title. Do not understate this achievement.

I think Kyrgios is more suited for doubles than singles. In singles, he lets his emotions ruin his focus and goes off the deep end, when it is clear he has talent to beat some of the top 10 players at times. Maybe because Kokkinakis has been his long-time best friend, Kyrgios stayed focused on tennis. Kokkinakis provides that emotional rational balance.
