I had absolutely no idea Koko or her mother had passed away. I followed them for a number of years, & their love was almost palpable. The videos with Robin & Koko were so profound too, I know meeting Koko meant a tremendous amount to Robin, which is why he left so much to Koko in his will - but if you haven’t seen those videos, look at Robin’s face. There is an unique understanding between human & animal, whether it be a pet dog, elephant or gorilla; you just ‘get them’ & they you. I believe Koko understood more than we will ever realise. I wonder how much of that is what she was taught and how much of that is truly what she feels. I worked for years at animal shelters. I was an animal cruelty investigator. I LOVE animals. However, one of the animal shelters I worked had some pretty radical beliefs. They took animal welfare just a step too far. It wasnt necessary and it wasnt possible for many people. However, we all touted the company line while we were working there. I definitely believe we need to take better care of Earth but for these to be Kokos dying words, it makes me wonder if she was basically told every day that humans were ruining the Earth. I just dont know, given her environment, how she would know that and fixate on that, if she hadn't been repeatedly told by her handlers.
