NEWJEANS - OMG (MV) Reaction | HONEST review

Its the antithesis of Ditto. While ditto was about the fans loneliness and their side of the parasocial relationship, OMG is about idols identity’s crisis based on what people say about them. Haerin is called a cat by fans and we’ve seen Heesoo call her kitty kang in ditto and now she thinks she’s an actual cat, Hyein has a princess syndrome cause she’s the maknae of the group, Minji is the leader so she thinks she’s actually the doctor helping them all, Dani is a ball of joy of the group so she becomes stuck in this mindset even laughing at nothing and Hanni has the most incredible metaphor to the parasocial relationship from the idol pov: they dance, sing, talk to us, cheer us up, comfort us when we’re down, take pictures for us…basically live for us without knowing us. Eventually in the video Dani is able to remember who she actually is but a sane person in a crowd of crazy people is seen as the craziest so nobody believes her. The ending is very meta and it represents both the haters and the fans who spent too much time and energy analyzing and criticizing everything idols put out and Dr Minji is there to remind us that it isn’t that deep

I think the "lack" of high notes and other things is nice. Feels like something I can (kinda) sing to. The facts it doesn't have anything crazy makes it relaxing imo

I was talking to my friends the other day and we realized that we miss those kind of concepts from 3rd gen that would get us insane trying to understand them, chaotic lore and theories that would make people be talking about it for a while. New Jeans came in with Ditto and OMG to give us that and I'm here for it 💖

I feel like the song had enough background vocals that to add adlibs would make it too much. The song and their goup itself has a youthful vibe to it too, & if there were even simple adlibs added I think it would age the song 🤔🤔 IMO The perfect amount for them and their image was the one adlib in Attention that Hanni did. It wasn't to much but still had some style with her runs. I hope they keep bringing out these bangers. A song like Impurities from Le Sserafim, however, would be the perfect song to add more adlibs in. The song was great and Yunjin's adlibs were great and they could've added even more.

I really didn't want to give this group a chance because rookies are usually not all that interesting to me but with NJ it's just not possible. The concept, the choreography, the styling, the production... it's just so well thought out. They get extra points for not overusing high notes and hyper nasal vocals. Singing in middle and lower registers is so rare in kpop these days but I definitely prefer it. I get exactly what you're saying about what you want from the songs. The songs are great but just a couple extra bits here and there would really take it over the top. I can see that the producers are trying to keep the music digestible which honestly feels like a hot take these days. These songs easily fit into my regular playlist. They're not vocally stunning but they are incredibly replayable.

so it's interesting.....very first time I heard this song I was like you.....I thought that it needed some vocal hook or adlib or fill in. But then I listened to the song a few more times and ESPECIALLY after watching the performance videos and the choreo, this song (and actually, ALL of their songs) is a lot faster and busier and frenetic than you think. Their official MVs are SO story driven and the songs themselves are so vibey it lulls you into thinking the song isn't as busy as it actually is. BUT, when you watch them perform the songs with the full choreo they're pretty complete pictures and more ad libs or vocals would, I think after a few more listens and views, really jumble up the song. Their creative team is REALLY IMPRESSIVE and have really thought through how all of it interacts (the song, the MV, the story, the lyrics, the choreo). Just my opinion

Yeah, I mean agree to disagree. I think you’re used to SM and their use of adlibs and vocals on their songs. For me, they go a little extra with it. Sometimes simple is best. But everyone has different tastes, so it’s ok.

Literally. like sm just goes sometimes way too extra with their adlibs and high notes (Here and sm artists stan) Like it’s okay if you do not put any highnote or hundreds of adlibs at the end of each song, we all know all of your artists are amazing singers with amazing singing abilities lol. I think it’s better to be more realistic and not put some crazy background vocals and highnotes, that some idols aren’t even able to sing comfortably. Cause nowadays almost none 4th gen groups, and even big 2nd and 3rd gen, sing live, not to mention the fact highnotes are normally just the recording or precording. So if they really want their artist to be more comfortable while performing and be able to fully showcase their abilities, taking into account the dancing too, I think kepping it simple for now like they’re doing is fantastic. Our ears really need some rest and new refreshung music coming from this gen.

i totally agree with the adlib point you made ! i have been listening to their music a bit less than usual and it partly stems from the lack of harmonies and adlibs. i'm just a bit scared that they're going to focus more on storytelling (less distractions) because ditto, omg, and hype boy mvs had stories to them, but little to no countermelodies, adlibs, etc, whereas hurt and attention were the opposite. however, idk if that's me just drawing a conclusion out of nothing 😭

mannn lesserafim are still my fav rookies but if it isn't breaking my heart that they debuted basically together i didn't actually love this song at first, similar to my reaction to ditto, but they're both on my study playlist atm bc they're not super complicated to listen to as a fellow sm stan, i really relate to wishing they did just a *tiny* bit more, but i'm happy for now, they're giving everything i absolutely need - i really hope they give more vocally in future

Just from my observation, it seems like you keep asking for more when it comes to their vocals on a song. I believe it wasn't the first time I heard you mention this. I think the music is fine as it is. If the songs don't grab you, then the parts you're asking for won't make a big difference in my opinion. Yes, it would be nice to hear it, but it wouldn't change the vibe of the song. Anyways, love this video and how it messes with your mind lol.
